I'm sure it started off with you both fitting it.... now it's:
"Have fun Jim, I'm off for a pint, don't worry, you'll be done soon, honest..."

LOL

Why do you want checkerplate?

I am not aware of any use of the stuff in proper motorsport.Unsure

They use it a lot on trucks, though.

He has some issues with the state of the footwells. They have a few holes from incorrect jacking and such so the checkerplate is there for cosmetics really. Wink

The floors are a bit of a state really so instead of welding and dressing the whole floor the checkerplate will sort it out and look better

Got the drivers side one in, had to make the top bar ftom scratch as the 'extra' bend in the A-Pillar bar meant it was too short. Dry
Not much left to do now, few welds to finish here and there, the passengers side turret bars and thats it. Oh yeah and the perforated gusset strips. Be very glad when its done and dusted Smile

yup it missed the hinge and I butchered the motor so it fits, but its a very very tight squeeze but all sorted.

Anyway I have been really bad taking pics lately, but I have a few and I will do a few this week of the finished cage.

So seeing teaboys tent got me thikning and as Jim hates getting wet after spending 60 quid on amazon I got me one of these

some of Jims weird and wonderful welding positions

then sat and sunday Jim brought round all the toys

and a few of starting the tirangulation, which was a nightmare

and Jim attacked the car with a plasma

I am off to Raw motorsport this week to get a new dash bar as we cut my one up to make the triangulation for one side and I think a bent one like Jim has will be better so I am taking his to get copied.

So I think I best update this.

Well the above Gazebo died in the snow, the weight was just too much for it.

So I brought a better one

So after the front tiangulation was done I made some plates to fill the hole we had to cut

The white stuff is underseal remover which I got from frosts
I removed as much of the old underseal as possible as I am going to redo it

So yesterday Jim fitted the new dash bar

and started fitting the gussets, but as they are straight and they need to be curved we cut them into 3 peices, I think they look pretty good to be honest

and tonight he fitted the otherside and one of the front ones

Today I fitted the pedals and the wheel so I can fit the seat,

But first off I had to modify the the steering column

Once its all bolted in its really strong so should be fine

Well I then cut my dash and started off by cutting the ends off to get it to fit

But I then though that just looks crap.
I did ring miles to see if he had a spare dash, but he doesnt but I thought sod it someone will have one and I did this

I then cut up my alloy door cards as I am now going carbon and made the top peice

and then rivoted it to the dash

I will try and finish the dash tomorrow.

And one of the cage all finished

Yesterday I fancied practicing my welding and made this

Its to hang the doors on to paint

and It had to be done

So I spent today finishing the dash.

I am really happy with it.
I just need to let the seamsealer set, then ill fill the edges rub it all down and sent it off to get flocked.
Its loads stronger now it has the sides on

I am well chuffed, even if it did take all day.
I just pray the snow stays off so me and Jim can get the rest of the welding finsihed!!

So I got up nice and early today and made a start.

Started by marking where the eyelets for the bottom strap, but school boy error didnt look under the car and one of the holes ended up in the chassis leg so I redrilled it.

on the drivers side I drilled from underneith so as to get the holes in the right place

I then did the ones for the side parts of the harneses.
I used the exsisting hole for the ones near the door, these where where the bottom of the seatbelts fitted to.
I then drilled through the floor of the other side

I then refitted the seats and all the harnesses and checked nothing snagged and it all fitted ok, which it did.

They then got pulled out and bagged up and put in the garage. they wont be needed for a while.

I then started to get the dash brackets made for it to fit and welded them to the dash bar

With it all fitted and bolted

And i started to strip the engine bay ready for painting

I really wanted to get the whole car stirpped, but I just ran out of time so hopfully will get this done tomorrow and get some prep work done.
