Its worth the effort when its done, its just getting it there.
I mean to be fair to custom cages, the original cage they sent had the wrong stays in and as soon as I told them the next day I had the right ones sent out.
Hopefully they will sort the other poblems out just as quick

So had another session on the car tonight trying to get the cage to fit.

We shortened the rear stays lower so they fit and started to fit the a pilar bsars, but they are just too over bent so Jim is going to attack them with some oxi acetiline.

I am also 1k lighter as I ordered my seats, harnesses and subframes.

SO am rather happy tonight.

Better off putting a porta-power on 'em if you've got one, you don't want to soften 'em too much with the heat.

Well yesterday we got a good way along with the cage. The A pillars, main hoop and screen bar are all together and fully welded so I now have a half cage together, but its not welded to the floor yet as we still need to move it to put all the rest in.
Now custom cages sent me some new rear stays that they made off of a shell they have there, but they where about a foot too long, so I have said to them just send me 2x 1.3M of tube and we will profile it to fit.

Safety first

Now we dont have a fancy tool to spread the cage so we made one (thanks to Phillip M for the tip).

Here it is in action, we tacked it to the cage so it didnt ping out and smack Jim in the face.

So hopefully this will now come togethe quickly but we shall see.

Thumbs up

Are you chopping holes in the floor to weld the top then, or have you dropped the a-pillars and screen bar back before putting the main hoop in?

We already welded the plates in so we tacked it all in place, then fitted the screen bar welded along the bottom then we broke the tacks and lent it forward. I deffo think thats the best way to do it even if Custom dont do it that way

We usually tack the plates in, shape the feet and get the a-pillars/main hoop/door bars and the screen bar all tacked in in the right place, then weld 2/3 of the screen bar, grind all the tacks back off the rest and lay the a-pillars down to weld the top, easiest way when the windscreen is still in.
Then take the feet out and drop the main cage onto the floor once you've welded the door bars and main hoop to the a-pillar bars so you can do the top. Saves having to chop holes in the floor.

So last weekend I decided to to a bit of tidying up on puggy.

First job was to put a bit of primeron top of the cage where it is touching the room as it will be hard to get paint in there when its all finished.
First off I gave the cage a good going over with my wire brush on my grinder then a quick rub down with some 80grit and a quick spray up.

I did some seam sealing where I welded up where the seat supports where removed (forgot pics of this), but it took so long to sort that but with a few coats of primer looks good.

Getting the cage back up on its supports at the rear is a bit of a pain as its so tight in places, but after jacking it up with our cage spreader it went back up.

Hopefully more cage fitting this weekend but we shall see.

My Chistmas holiday starts on Dec 5th so my plan is to have the cage in by then so I can paint the inside and refit everything so the inside is completed by Jan but you know how these things work!!

Kev's main hoop was that low too, ended up welding another plate on the rear feet to get it sat up a bit closer to the roof.
Whereas Rikky's went in nicely with a helping hand from a rawhide mallet, touching all around....
Not sure why there's a kink in the a-pillars above the doors though! Blink
