I think the pump unit is the same - just the fitting kits are different.

Any of the 255 L/PH pumps should be OK - there are some minor differences in the inlet/outlet loacations but it should make much difference.

Just get one with a universal fitting kit.

From experience, thinking about it, you would be best of getting an external one, and run it inline with the OE one still in the tank. Either that or run a swirl pit with Walbro pump.

I use to get fuel surge with a Walbro pump shoe-horned in to the OE casing, this is becuase the standard pump has an anti-surge valve built into its inlet which the 255 L/PH pumps dont have.

I did make a mini anti-surge resevoir and bolted it to the pump casing, that helped Yes

TBH the above isn't a problem apart from on track, and if you keep plenty of fuel in there that solves the problem too.

Anyhow, here's the Walbro pump sho-horned into GTi-6 casing, with stainless anti-surge resevoir which was later added..

And here is a full blown swirl pot setup with external pump...

Next job for this kit is a manifold mounted chargecooler, all in one kinda thing.

The ESS Supercharger kits for BMW's work like that, really really effective and compact.

Yeah that is the one, it cost me £140 to get it from the states then 21 quid when it was over here, its very well made, I just do not think you could get the same thing over here for anything like that price.

Now the fuel pump, what should I get? I was going to get the universal one for 75 quid from flat 4 online, now i am not sure, i am going ot track the car, so dont really want fuel surges

At future track days I can see people packing up & going home when they see the 306 boys turn upThumbs up

Chris, a thing I've noticed is that Rich is continually upgrading somthing or other & I dont think he would be changing anything unless there was somthing to be gained.
If he has gone for an external pump it must be the way forwardWink

The OE lifts the fuel out of the tank to a swirl pot, then the Walbro one picks it up from there.

Although it doesn't look like it, the standard pump sit's in a swirl pot (the round plastic thing), the pump has 2 pick up's, one from the tank and one from the pot, with a non return valve so the fuel cannot drain from the pot back into the tank. I tried fitting a walbro pump into the standard pot, but you have to remove the non return valve to do it. It doesn't work, as soon as the tank is less than half full you will get severe fuel surge on cornering. The only way to do it is to run the standard pump feeding a swirl pot and then a high pressure pump from there.
