I had a feeling you would reply, as you mentioned above its the same as zx16v isnt it? What speeds are you doing in 1st,2nd and so forth? And how is 5th for an "economy" gear?

Just changed mine from a gti6 box to a xasra vts it pulls harder in 1/2/3 and 4th is longer not much difference in 5th which is slightly shorter than the gti6 6th but not enough for you to notice i have not, but i havnt been on the motorway with it yet i know you asked how its like to live with in a 306 but i would recommend it over the gti6 box.It also drops down more down the rev counter than the gti6 box which kept you higher up the rev range between gear changes.
As stupid has it sounds my car actually feels lighter and better balanced than it was with the gti6 box and im loving the fact of having full lock both ways.

Cheers! Obviously i dont have a 7400RPM rev limit though and dont want to ruin the economy, so if you could report back on what revs it is at 70mph that would be awesome! Dont want it higher than 3000RPM really!

Gearbox:- 306 GTi-6 Late FD
Tyre:- 195/55 x 15
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Gear gives 21.008 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 152.311 MPH at 7250 RPM

Engine speeds in top gear:-
30 MPH = 1428 RPM 40 MPH = 1904 RPM 50 MPH = 2380 RPM 60 MPH = 2856 RPM
70 MPH = 3332 RPM 80 MPH = 3808 RPM 90 MPH = 4284 RPM 100 MPH = 4760 RPM

Top Speed in 1 gear = 41.426 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 4636 RPM dropping 2614 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 64.787 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 5485 RPM dropping 1765 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 85.634 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 5886 RPM dropping 1364 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 105.477 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 6006 RPM dropping 1244 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 127.326 MPH
And changes into 6 gear at 6061 RPM dropping 1189 RPM
Top Speed in 6 gear = 152.311 MPH

Gearbox:- Xsara VTS
Tyre:- 195/55 x 15
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Gear gives 20.515 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 148.732 MPH at 7250 RPM

Engine speeds in top gear:-
30 MPH = 1462 RPM 40 MPH = 1950 RPM 50 MPH = 2437 RPM 60 MPH = 2925 RPM
70 MPH = 3412 RPM 80 MPH = 3900 RPM 90 MPH = 4387 RPM 100 MPH = 4875 RPM

Top Speed in 1 gear = 37.908 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 4636 RPM dropping 2614 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 59.286 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 4965 RPM dropping 2285 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 86.566 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 5387 RPM dropping 1863 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 116.514 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 5680 RPM dropping 1570 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 148.732 MPH

Hmm, will that extra 100 RPM at 70 make that much difference?

nope, that slight difference in 5th total ratio wont do much difference, I still got decent economy though mine was quite light for a road car, would ave been around 1100.

my engine would buzz the limiter in 5th, where you'll find not many will in 6th Ninja

I'd personally stick with the 6 speed, you might get slightly better acceleration with the 5 speed but through 3rd 4th and 5th the 6 speed is much better Imo.

You can see from your post above that those 3 gears on a 5 speed all drop the revs back a lot more than the 6 speed, couple this with going up a hill or something and there is a big difference in how they pull. I used to hate 4th gear in my Vts as it would take forever to pull through it.

Also worth considering gear selection for corners as the 6 speed gives you better option's.

OK so this is confusing the hell out of me....

I'm looking at a new box for my car and I can't get the info I need from the company as the main man is away.

I have the top speeds at 7500 rpm and the final drive ratios but not the gear ratios.

How would I work these out using the information I do have

    1st 39mph 2nd 62mph 3rd 81mph 4th 99mph 5th 120mph FD 4.44

Next question is what speed would I get if using a 3.6 FD from a 1.9gti box (if that's what they have fitted)

Appreciate the answers but how you got to those answers would be helpfully for me to work out how gear ratios, final drives and rpm all come together to work out top speeds and rpm drop in each gear
