Hi Everyone

Thank you for accepting me as a forum member. I am in the process of buying a Tin-Top race car [306 GTI-6].
I can see from the various topics that many of you are using them for speed events etc.

To save me re-inventing the wheel, if any of you have any set-up info, etc in electronic form [i.e. pdf files or word] for these cars re spring rates, List !a/1B/1C tyres to run which work best, I would gladly welcome access to that.

My new toy currently runs the standard fuel tank and pump but I am considering putting a double skinned alloy tank and swirl pot in the rear of the car eventually.

I am going to be doing BARC-SE and probably some CSCC events in 2017.

Thank you for taking the time to read my thread.
Just to inject some humour into the situation, I am a 62 year old racer that still loves his sport and needed a car big enough to get a "stout" person into the driver's seat !!!

Hey, welcome to the forum. I've also got a 306 race car, some info here: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=150229

Is the car already a race car? If so, any photos? (I think I know most of the 306 race cars these days sadly! Big grin )

What is the spec of it? Mine is currently:

400lb 6" springs
~5 minutes toe out at the front
3 degrees front camber
23.5mm TBs at the rear
Hybrid (28mm) rear ARB

I'm about to get the rear geo sorted to 2 degrees camber and 0 toe, along with a 30mm ARB.

In terms of tyres, my personal favourite are the Dunlop DZ03Gs, work well and I've had no issues with them at all!

Hi Dan

I have seen your photo thread etc and it was really interesting. Your set-up info was very useful. The car I am picking up next week was built and has been used as a track-day car and used "Up-North" at Donnington etc. The current owner has done a few track days but not anything significant to it. It appears that the previous owner did all the work and spent loads of money.

It has Schroth 4-point harnesses [£200 each !] plastic windows, OMP bolt in full cage, wrap around MSA spec driver's seat etc engine with reputedly 180bhp so I suspect it has had cams and a re-map??

I will post some pictures when I get it. Which race series do you compete in Dan? Dan: do you use 400lb springs all the way round? If not, what are the front and what are the rears?

Day666 : yes, I do come from Bristol so it is probably me you know !! I have raced since 1975 in everything from F Ford, Clubmans, through to Multisport, Special Saloons and Tin-Tops.

Everyone: thanks for the kind words. I have found a mountain of useful info on the forum.

My first priority is to fit an extinguisher, battery master cut out switch and a new 6-point MSA legal HANS harness. Nest year, I am looking to get an alloy baffled tank made and a swirl pot for it so anyone who has already done this, photos and details of suppliers would be greatly appreciated.

Any of you live near Bedford ?

PS: I need another set of wheels. Am a correct that 6" x 16" works OK on 306's?

I hope to run Nankang NSR1's next season for the dry and something like 888's for the wet, or similar.

Which Ford rims fit the 306 and what spacers do you need and where is the best place to get them as Ford wheels are 2-a-penny !!

Ahh, ok, I hadn't heard of any 306 race cars up for sale, makes sense that it's currently a track car Smile

180bhp could just be a decent filter, I had a standard one that made 165 at the hubs so sometimes they are just good engines (although I wait for someone to correct me on that!)

I race in Trackday Championship (http://www.trackdaychampionship.com/). We're actually at Donington next Sunday (14th August) if you wanted to come along and say hi?

400lb springs at the front, rears are torsion bars so no springs. 23.5mm TBs at the rear are about the same as 400lb springs though.

One more stupid question guys: have tried to find a workshop manual on the 306GTI-6 but finding hen's teeth seems to be easier. Any suggestions what HAynes manual covers most of the workings of that model??
