It's all in the title really.

My 6 track car is standard on the engine front. Running round Brands yesterday I was driven mad by an Escort Cossie getting embarrassed round the bends, ignoring the blue flags and flooring it on the straights.

Conclusion, I need more power! This is a 'cheap' (no such thing!) track only car so I'm only going to chuck a grand at it. What can/should I do. Where should I do it, I keep hearing people talking about RichW and Colin and so on but where the hell do I find these people?

From what I can gather, I can only go to mild cams so where am I going to find 30 bhp without pocketed Pistons etc?

Not exactly an exciting question but any advice greatly appreciated, the easier the better!

Sorry to dissapoint but you need to save yourself a grand and go and get the marshalls to have a word with the escort driver. Either that or man up and stick it down the inside on one of the corners you're closest. A grand will make f**k all difference on how far behind the Cossie you are if you spend it on the engine, better spent on brakes and suspension.

Been here myself as many others have:

I personally Agree with these guys ....In the last 4months I have only just got the power I always dreamed of ...2 years ago I did my Brakes & then suspension then wheels & Tyres then lightened the car then Throttle bodies with x8 injectors & two years later the full engine ....

Spend your money on Handling & Brakes & defo decent Tyres Thumbs up

Don't worry to much about the power to start with ?.....Powers wasted if you can't stop it or it doesn't handle great Thumbs up

I've only just clocked the category I put this in, what a nob! Anyway, to those saying I have to sort the handling, I was all over him everywhere except the straights, backing off through the corners so I didn't run into the back of him. Spoke to race control for first time ever about the point and squirt and they had a word. Go into pits for a coffee is a cracking idea but they had 2 drivers (who were both shirt) car was out all day. Obviously couldn't drive for s**t, I came out of pits on Indy circuit just in front and was on him in 4 laps.

The idea of passing the Cossie on the straight was a bit of a joke but original enquiry stands, can I get 30bhp for a grand?

Running Black Diamond 6 groove discs, DS2500's on standard calipers, C5 Steelies with ducts, Yoko AD08r, Spax PSX, Lightened but more to go. Standard ARB etc. Where else should I put the cash? Roller bearing bushes? Hybrid ARB? Coilovers? Flywheel? LSD? Coilovers? Machined Hubs? Brakes (Which I assume will need wheels)?

What do you guys think, where's my grand best spent?

Was Indy circuit so only 1.2 miles long with a couple of pretty short straights, only things going past me were one of the caterhams, a fully race prepped 330, radical and a mini. Was quicker than everything else.

Have the quickshift and been trying to get my hands on a ph1 rack but can't find one. Good shout on the diff I think.

Im no expert that's for sure.mimcould have easily got past him but would have led to a certain black flag. I don't care how good you can drive when you are only allowed to overtake on straights by consent and he floors it up every straight, you ain't getting past.

I think you'll always struggle on straight line power. Have you tried a different track ?

you aint going to beat a decent cossie straight line speed without spending decent money on engine , like you say no overtaking in corners on trackdays , but if you've got a grand to spend on car decent diff is one off the first thing id look at , and some decent rubber and finish lightening it

Think that's where I'm at. The A048r's are pretty good to be honest so not too worried about the rubber.

I'm thinking Quaife, RichW Flywheel and Roller Bearing Bushes and get the rest of the weight off it. I know the Quaife is a bit love it or hate it but for fit and forget, it's better than nothing. Should I be getting solid mounts, will it make much of a difference?
