I can weld them, but you aren't exactly on my doorstep.

You are a fair old way but if I can't find anyone closer ill have to make a road trip as long as you can get it done in a day or put me up for a night. I want all curved pipes send me an idea of price by pm. also might aswell get the throttle body relocated to after the charger while I'm at it

I'm no expert but from my experience, having the throttle downstream of the 'charger will mean you'll need a meaty blow off valve to clear all that air, a cheap ebay 25mm one won't cut the mustard.
You'll also need to go for one with a weak spring (mine is 2psi), or once again you'll potentially damage the charger.

I've got a Tial Q on mine, clears the boost fine, but not that cheap! If you do go for the tial, it'll need the flange welding onto the boost pipework somewhere between the 'charger and throttle body, so it might be worth ordering that before having the welding done so that can be done at the same time as the rest of the pipework is being welded. The flange that comes with the tial is suited to 2.5" pipework although it could be altered to suit whatever size.
You'll also need to connect the vacuum hose for the valve somewhere between the throttle body and engine, the tial uses something like 6 or 7mm bore hose, so fairly decent size, another thing to consider if you don't have any spare fittings to use as the vacuum take off from the manifold.

I'm not on a Rotrex setup like you, but everything i said applies afaik.
I'm guessing you'll need a remap too if you change the throttle body setup. You'll also probably ditch the ICV and rely on keeping the throttle body open a touch to give you idle.

Funny how a simple job suddenly turns into big money isnt it?!?! Doh Laugh

This doesn't sound like a drive in drive out job, have you considered getting in touch with Rich W to see what he reccomends and also who he gets his gear welded up by.

I will do that. I have nothing bad to say about Rich W he is a top bloke and has done a lot for this club and makes some fantastic parts for the Gti6 but the pipework on these setups is terrible it is so so restrictive for a supercharger it really needs to be curved bends

hoses only collapse due to the way the rotrex kit is designed body infront of charger

so with body after charger you could use reinforced sam co for the bends and they wouldn't colapse? bringing the pipe work price down a lot

Assuming the throttle body is on the manifold, there should never be any vacuum in the hoses between the 'charger and the throttle body, so it shouldnt collapse.

body is pre charger just after the air-filter so lots of vacuum Wink
theoretically there sound be a positive pressure as the charger is always driven untill the body shuts

Sorry, I was assuming he still wanted to fit the throttle body after the charger to go for the blow off valve route, should have specified.

Of your replacing the right angles with curves why does it need welding? Just get all the correct angles of boost pipes and use silicone joiners and micalor clamps. As long as the hard pipes are butted up to one another inside the silicone joiners nothing can collapse under vacuum anyway.

What is the diameter of the pipework anyway?

Think its 2" on low boost. High boost is 2.5".
Rich was talking about doing a tb after charger conversion kit not so long ago iirc.

You won't get any more boost - waste of money.

The low boost uses a 38mm restrictor on the charger inlet to limit boost to 8-9 PSI.

Where do you think the restriction is - in the 38mm restrictor or 51/63mm boost pipes? Smile

Was thinking this. File out the restrictor to get more boost. But then it would need mapping or the AFR will be to lean and you'll melt something. And from rat boys adverts I think he stated it has the high boost cooler and pipework anyway. So 2.5" pipes and larger cooler.

That's right, the easiest way to more power is to enlarge the restrictor. But it WILL need mapping by Wayne Schofield again.

Someone should go for a medium boost, and see if the engine will do 300 bhp on standard internals Thumbs up

I thought the pipe before the inlet manifold would have been the worst one? as I said Rich I have nothing but good things to say about you its nothing against you and I am far less knowledgable than you in this subject so if as you've said the LB o's restricted anyway then I stand corrected.

Also I would be up for trying the medium boost. 300 bhp with a LSD would be more than enough I think. I am going to install a LSD anyway, and when i do I need to buy another one of your flywheels

I've been thinking this for years, do a sensible power version for people who want to drive it hard but not have to worry about transmission failure as a regular occurrence. (260 bhp is plenty in a light track car anyway, but 300 could be more fun if it can be made to last well)
PS I know the engines hang together fine its everything else.
