thing is the British Touring cars were a long way off top spec for a Peugeot engine at the time, regulations with the classes they ran in were part of that, as the 306's were not in the full works specifications, nor were the 405's.

the french supertourers were something else and peugeot sport France would not sell them the engines hence using longman engines.

I only mention Sandy's name initially as its a prominent one on a few pug/citroen forums, and there doesn't seem to be many out there still pushing the TU XU and EW stuff, though there are plenty other guys building very good French motors, SRD have built a few though their main thing is the old pinto's and Zetecs, though not exclusively, JRE formerly built a lot of large capacity Ford and Vauxhall Rally engines as well as 1400's.

most of the names I've seen build a good pug engine are predominantly ford and GM builders, not many of the self titled pug engine specialists inspire confidence, whether rightly or not I couldn't comment personally.

most of the btcc 306 stuff is nigh on 15 years old by now.

wow I'd love to go for a blast in a super high boost!!

Welshy I see your point there as has been said sandy has a list aslong as the earth lol! I do trust Brett's work and have seen many well built high powered pug engines! As well as his own 298bhp n/a cosworth engine in his mk2 escort!! I'm swaying towards the low boost tho now if I'm honest I can't justify the high boost price or the price of a properly built N/a for the money vs power it doesn't quite add up!

Any pics of the beast? From your other thread you mentioned an adjustable rear arb any pics of how it's adjustable for pre load? Iv got to get my suspension set up and have never seen or heard about an adjustable arb! If you have some spare time I would love to come and have a look to get my head round it Thumbs up

Pics would be good or when your available to meet up I'll come have a look and take you out in my car...
I can imagine that the arb end plates are connected to some sort of adjustable linkage so then you can add pre lead to the bar?

Am I missing something here? How can you pre load an ARB? It would only work when cornering in one direction surely?! The only way of altering an ARB rate is to change the thickness of the bar or alter the leverage on the bar via some sort of arm.

I get the feeling you're talking about the drop link that the BTCC cars ran, I'm sorry to dissapoint you but that isn't an 'adjustable' bar, its to ensure there isn't any pre load on the bar if the ride height is altered slightly to set the cars balance up.

Pete, when I mentioned 'adjustable arb' in the other thread I meant it being adjustable for preload. I know some folk preload the arbs when they corner weight these cars, I personally wouldn't as you're affecting other things as well as the corner weights obviously!

It's easy to get any preload out of the arb anyway using the vernier effect on the arb/end plates.

I'm not sure which thread the other thread is! I just read the above and thought WTF?! The only possible reason I can think for preloading an ARB is for Oval racing, otherwise you would effectively have a strong ARB for turning one direction, and a very weak ARB for turning the other direction, and when you're not turning you'd effectively have a stiffer spring on one side of the car?

I might be missing something here so correct me if I'm mistaken?!

I always figured the drop link on the BTCC cars was there so that if they made changes to the balance of the car in a quick stop during testing etc then they could line up the ARB end plates to the swing arm just by increasing/decreasing the length of the drop link slightly?

You've got it Pete, Preloading the bar is not good but as I say I've heard a couple of people now say they do it when corner weighting! Corner weighting should be done with the arbs disabled!
I'm sure as you say the btcc cars had it to save faffing spinning the bar and trying the end plates until it lined up. You could maybe even do it with the wheels on to save jacking etc.
