been looking at a few high boost videos
On YouTube!! They seem pretty brutal,
Been thinking if Iam going to end up spending
Money tuning my Rallye N/a spend thousands and only
Get 270 ish max why not go high boost and have 400bhp!
What could a high boost be compared to!?

Focus Rs
M3
Etc......?

Ive just gone from low boost to high boost ( my highboost isnt run in yet so i dont know what it can do)
My low boost was quicker than my friends mk1 focus rs with circa 240bhp. When he upped his boost a few months later, we were level until top ends and i pulled on him.
Also was neck and neck with a e46 m3 till the top end when his torque got the better of me.

So a highboost should be better.

And you will struggle to get 270 out of a n/a engine unless you throw serious money at it.

Spares package he has and would be around 270bhp
5 grand with out management or itbs

Brief Spec

45mm steel crank
Peugeot sport rods
Omega Pistons
13ml lift cams
Solid lifters plus head work

I'd talk to people who've run touring car engines like Pete-Rallye and Carl chambers. 45mm cranks, massively over sprung valves and p**s thin valve stems. They are not 'fit and forget' by any stretch of the imagination.

If you're just chasing figured the best bang for buck is a supercharged engine. as I've said in your other thread though a standard/mildly tuned engine, decent ratio'd box and short FD with plated LSD would be the thinking mans choice all day long. Very very quick and will allow you to ring it's neck rather than spending the whole time reining it in or fitting big end shells.

You need to decide what you want out of your car, you seem to be just after big dyno numbers.

Giving my two pence worth Thumbs up
Recon I'm 180-189 at a push ....at a guess ...
Handling with tyres ...3j plate diff & good suspension with advice off people who know Like Miles etc is key !!!

Nothing I Met that day .... 6 Supercharged or even Turbo Charged gave me any real problems at FCS Castle Combe ?
None of the Clios either !!
Not even that bloody quick Subaru....
Not even the lightened full track cars & the odd Jap cars that turned up LOL

I was out for 5hrs on & off in all 3 time slots !!!!
Must admit a few were slightly quicker on the straight but that was it & they didn't live with mine on the other areas ....ok maybe they weren't all that good drivers but all the big power cars didn't seem to be able to use that power where I can use mine on the corner & chicanes .....all the Gear and no Idea Whistle

Ashes 205 / 6 engined car on here is a Sandy Brown 2.1 is prob the quickest thing you will see around Combe ...230bhp N/A & light !!!!

My View only Thumbs up
N/A all the way

You've put on another thread about budget, you ideally need to write up about how much your willing to spend? Track work n/a on bodies is the best and imo less maintenance!

I was going to try and build a cheap N/a track car! But then thought if I'm going to do it spend more
And do a boosted six but seems n/a is favourite for track use

I'd say go low boost with your std engine, you'd be around 250bhp with bags of torque. While you're running it take your time & build a low compression engine, so when you're ready to make the jump to 400bhp the work to get there would be minimal.
Oh, did I mention I've a supercharger fitting kit for sale for £850Whistle

Cool

I would be very surprised if you made 270hp for 5 grand. If you can, order me the same setup while your at it. I had a head done by Brett Sims and I know how much that cost on its own.

For big numbers then high boost is surely the only way of achieving it. Id agree with the others tho that the money could go into other things, with a solid, less spec'd engine and be a quick track car.

Brett is a very good friend and by far one of the best engine builders
If he says he can build me a 270hp engine from used btcc parts I have
No reason to doubt his ability atal!!!

There's prices for friends and prices for customers
I can get a head rebuilt and flowed with some mild port work for £300

Nice one... remember you are on a FORUM asking for peoples opionions, when you do that, opinions tend to be what you will get Smile We don't know your individual circumstances or the fact that you get mates rates. By the way, you sure you should be pointing that out on here?

Never been out in a boosted six, never been out in a seriously quick N/A one either. However, there is a wealth of knowledge on here if you look for the right threads, especially in the projects section. What you probably wont find is 'raced a well phat ST and blasted it brav' but you should be able to suss some of the pitfalls and prices etc. and what you will need in your quest for power.

Surely if you look at power to weight raitio on the boosted cars VS the kit you want to fry then that should give you some idea?

I was just saying getting that power is achievable when you have friends in the business that give you
Mates rates. I want just pointing out what I can get for 5k if that's the way I choose to go.

You have so many people on here that have tried almost everything in the real world & they don't take prisoners Kevin ....
Loads have gone off here since I've been on here only 2years now ...

I think I've done something diff & someone reminds me no you haven't LOL
They are a great bunch on here & amazing if you ask but not tell them how to do things they have done 1000s of times & it doesn't work !!!!
Please get a look at people's cars & go in them at shows !!!!
The real world working is different to the Cad / on paper world ...things always sound better until it gets tried & fails LOL
You seem a good bloke ....Thumbs up
Don't get hung up on BHP as it comes at a cost !!!!
BTCC isn't real world it's high maintaince / strip down often & Im aware of Brett Sims & his amazing Rep ...but if he's sensible & a real m8 he will produce you a 220-230 reliable stormer & the world reliable is important ....something that you don't have to keep throwing money at Thumbs up
I'm really happy with mine !!!
God knows how much happier I would be with a Engine like Ashs Thumbs up ....that thing flys !!!!!!
I can't wait for Pugfest ....let the game begin ....all the best & keep asking lots of Questions but dont expect polite answers as that's how things are from very experienced people who have done it & seen it all before Thumbs up

id speak to sandy not brett, using old tired btcc castoff parts is not a wise move as is evident from the many dropped valves and grenaded engines.

you can do much better starting afresh than with a set of parts designed to meet specific regs, they won't be nice to drive or easy to make quick at all.

The idea was to build something cheap that I can just abuse! I didn't say I was building btcc spec it was just what I was offered.
