Hello everyone

I'm a British guy who moved to Sweden about 2 years ago, and still getting used to the cultural differences.
My user name is "immigrant" in Swedish, if anyone was wondering.
I've driven many different 306 hire cars, from a 1.4 to xsi. I enjoyed driving every one. This is the first ownership of a Peugeot, if you don't include bicycles.
I discovered it on a very popular second hand website here. Just after buying an Audi Coupe the GTI-6 turned up, and I just had to have it.

The advert said "too many modifications to list". You know...the usual used car advert 'BS'. After a good nose around and a test drive I discovered one wheel had no balancing and the car vibrated like hell! Best bargaining chip I've ever been thrown. Luckily the owner knew very little about cars, and turned out this was the reason he was selling it. But nothing felt like anything had been done to the engine to improve performance.

For around £1,000 I bought myself a phase 1 GTI-6 with about 80,000 miles on the clock.
What I do know is that it has a 3-inch cat-back exhaust (looks like a JapSpeed back-box, but can't see any branding) and a Jetex Induction kit. It sounds beefy, it does become annoying on longer trips. Luckily the stereo helps solve this problem.

The rest you can see from the photos. I know many of you here are purists and will 'poo poo' the styling. But nothing screams late 90's car styling than a set of TSW Vemons and clear Lexus style rear lights.

The bodywork had no rust but a myriad of stone chips ranging in size from 1mm up to 5mm, luckily most of them have just chipped away the clear top coat. Sweden uses gravel on the roads for part of the winter (after 3 months of salting it!).

I have a 'to do' list, but I'll ask my wise and learned forum friends in the right place (not 'ere).
I hope my knowledge of car audio (set-up, blah blah) will be of use to someone at some point.

So, here it is

Most of the Swedish phase 1s were blaze for some reason!

For about 6 months, this was the only blaze available in the whole of Sweden (4 of them), all the others were red, and standard with much higher mileage too.

Thanks for the welcome, I think I will follow your advise. My phone uploads the images directly to google drive. It's the first time I used it on a forum, and probably the last!

Hi and welcome!!!

Very clean looking car you have there......personally I would remove the bodykit and rear lights but thats just a personal taste thing. Liking the look of the Venom's.

Enjoy the car...

Is it just the camera angle or do these seats look slightly different to the UK ones?...the bolsters on the base look bigger (yours actually look better!). Also strange seeing the dash we all know so well but mirror imaged! I agree with others, lose the bumpers, side skirts and rear lights then put back to standard and you'll have yourself a very nice car there. Oh, and try to get the rip in the drivers seat sorted now before it gets worse.

Phase 1 seats have significantly larger bolsters and are an overall cooler shape, but are easier to rip and damage as the bolsters get slid across even more.

Makes sense actually, I used to have an XSi on a 97 plate and the seats in that car were far superior to the GTi6 and Rallye I have now!. They gave better support when cornering and felt more comfortable.

Oh indeed I will. it's on my 'to do' list.
One problem with living in Sweden is if your car isn't a SAAB or Volvo, you have to expect very little help from the natives. Foreign stuff scares/confuses them. And when you do find someone up for specialist tasks, they're hundreds of miles away!

Thanks again for all the friendly greetings.

I live in the south of Sweden there's not much difference between them in this part of the country, I actually bought the car from a Danish fella.
The Swedes are VERY nationalist. They don't understand why I find it amusing when friends say stuff like "Did you see that really cool Volvo in the car-park?", if you go to Swedens version of exchange & mart and look for cars, and search just in your county, you'll see a list something like this: I've copy/pasted the list directly from the website.

    Alfa Romeo, 57
    Audi, 1032
    BMW, 1414
    Cadillac, 46
    Chevrolet, 238
    Chrysler, 126
    Citroën, 422
    Dacia, 75
    Dodge, 93
    Ferrari, 49
    Fiat, 165
    Ford, 1047
    Honda, 401
    Hyundai, 446
    Jaguar, 184
    Jeep, 69
    Kia, 490
    Lamborghini, 6
    Land Rover, 130
    Lexus, 59
    Lincoln, 10
    Maserati, 37
    Mazda, 265
    Mercedes-Benz, 1327
    Mini, 103
    Mitsubishi, 430
    Nissan, 499
    Opel, 559
    Peugeot, 879
    Pontiac, 33
    Porsche, 219
    Renault, 688
    Rover/BMC, 42
    Saab, 3526
    SEAT, 179
    Skoda, 373
    Smart, 17
    Ssang Yong, 19
    Subaru, 183
    Suzuki, 160
    Toyota, 636
    Volkswagen, 1031
    Volvo, 4282

They do like their american cars in this part of the country. I guess you could call it Swedens 'Norfolk'

I've been looking a a popular car website here and all the GTI's are blaze. Bucket loads of them.
Even found mine on there from when a previous owner put the body-kit on back in 2012.

I've had 3 gti6s and all have been diablo. I don't seek them out, it's just that whenever I've been in a position to buy one the nicest one I can find is always diablo. LOL
