Background:
Ian from Glasgow. Turned 40 a few weeks ago and decided that aside from the 2 cars i have now, i needed a 3rd!
I am blaming 40 but i've spent 3 months trying to convince the other half to get rid of her 1.2 59 plate Polo for a new Fiesta ST. That way she can use my X5 (my other car is the fast datsun) when i fancy a hoon to work in the ST. But she's not having any of it. Too much money - which is true.
So i then sold her the idea of her getting rid of her car and that i buy a £500 car (she is going back to uni and has no need for a car apparently but that means she will end up in the X5 all the time) , that I can spend time re-learning the skills i had from my Mk1/2 Fiesta days about 22 years ago (haven't done brakes/oil change/springs etc since then!). And also i would like to do my Cat B racing licence thing (just for something to do) and go up to Knockhill half a dozen times a year in it.
So with her permission, i went through the usual cars eg MX5, Fiesta ST etc even started looking at Porsche 968's and E30 325i's (i have one when i was 20 - brilliant machine, crashed it and then ended up driving the same Clio for 9 years). But the cost started creeping up and so i stuck to looking at cheaper cars and then came across the suggestion of a 306 Gti-6. Anyone my age will remember the ZX Volcane, Renault 19 16v and all those cars from that era but the 306 stood out for me then (probably because of the 6 speed gearbox) and did again now. Some were saying the 205 but the 306 for me was something a bit more special. So i spent a week or so looking and was tempted with some stripped out cars (probably owned by members here) but i need a road legal car to use - even just to get to Knockhill and hopefully back! Made a few offers (probably very cheeky) and then came across one with <40,000 miles on Autotrader for double my budget!

I used the buying guide to go through all the checks and apparently everything is good apart from the paintwork! Then i hummed and hawwed about it as it wasn't the £500 car with lots of work i had planned on buying. There is/was a car in edinburgh on gumtree that i would have probably taken over this but the seller never got back to me. So without seeing the car (although the seller has offered money back if i'm not happy) i've done the deal. Crazy but life's too short (especially when you're from Glasgow!) And to be fair the seller was very helpful in terms of all the questions etc.
So the dealer is doing the cambelt, water pump, service and MOT for me before i pick up in a couple of weeks time and then the question is what do i do to it after getting it.
I think i will buy a DA and have a go at the paint before taking it a body shop. YouTube how to videos are bad!
Then i'm not sure what to do. I know with previous cars i have had there's almost a list of things that you must do eg Blacklines on the e91s. So i guess i will have to work out what they are. Although suggestions welcome.
Anyway, blabbed on long enough. Can't wait to get the car.
Will post more once i get it.
