What's the correct position for locking the cams? Haynes says 5 o'clock on inlet and 7 o'clock on exhaust, which makes sense as I can see holes in the head itself, however when I locked the crank pulley I couldn't line them up at all. We did several rotations of the crank to try and line them up but it didn't.Any ideas? ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

3 options:-1:remove original crank pulley and use 8v xu pulley to get positioning 2:buy an alloy crank pulley off of someone 3:buy a genuine o/e pulley from main dealer (or me) ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. Bit more info, we're stripping it down because I (very, very idiotically) shifted in to second instead of fourth during quali and we heard a tapping sound after that so want to check everything over. Could this have cause the crank pulley to slip / break or something?Pulley is a bit rusty but other than that looks intact, same as the one on the spare car. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Dont get one from ecp tho as the one I got one time had the hole drilled through the pulley in the wrong place!!! I used the woodruff key when I timed mine up then put tip ex on what was ment to be the correct hole on pulley to see if was ok and was fine but I would highly recommend a solid alloy pulley!! I have one now brilliant bit of kit no more worries ________________________________________ cherry rallye daily (the money pit) |

not all of them have those, I have seen three different variances of XU10J4RS crank pulleys even though there's one number.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

You don't *need* to use a crank pulley to line the bottom end up - you can do it by the position of the woodruff key itself. This will save people having to buy new crank pulleys all the time. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

From what I remember, it was still lined up on the woodruff key but the cams wouldn't line up at all. Not ideal but since we were taking the head off anyway, decided it was not the biggest thing to worry about at the time. When we refit, we'll put the new pulley on the bottom and line it up with the locking point and the same with the cams. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

If you get flywheel locked off in correct place shouldn't the cam pully holes be lined up then? |

Think timing might have jumped as we managed to lock the spare car's engine with no problem (despite it being the older style cam pulleys). Head is fine though, as are pistons. 2 of the shells are damaged so we think that's what has broken.________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |
