Hi everyone. I'm finally writing a project thread for the Ph1 that I've had for a year now. Basically, my missus bought this Gti-6 off of my good friend Pete26 as I told her it was for sale at a ridiculously low price for what it was. I didn't have the money to buy it as I'm repaying debts etc, so she bought it for me as a surprise. At the time, I was running around in a 205 diesel so I came up with the idea to turn it into a road legal track car as I've always wanted one and since I have a cheap run-around it would be silly not to.

With the help of some friends from this forum, I hope this project will work out well and at a reasonable cost as im not loaded with cash and don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to mechanics.

so after scrolling the forum I found myself a nice cage that would look nice and do a good job...

The harnesses in that pic came with a pair of Kevlar bucket seats that were quite expensive but worth the money as they are light as f**k and pretty comfortable (for a track car)

after stripping the interior of most plastics, I trial fitted the parts I bought

I have got myself a few other bits including shocks and springs, sparco wheel with boss and c5 steels. I have many more things on the list eg, flocked dash, more wheels battery and relocation etc... but just glad to get the ball rolling. any info, help or suggestions are welcome Thumbs up

It wont be abused. It will be built as a track car with time and dedication to a tidy conversion. Would be nice to get the finished product into a mag shoot Thumbs up

Cant do any welding yet as need a sunroof blank so the sunny can be ditched to allow room for the roll cage. Either a 1mm metal sheet or i'll get a carbon panel off egay Thumbs up

Thanks for the nice comments guys Thumbs up

Id go with the carbon Dan. Waiting on the 1mm sheet for the sun roof is holding up the build. Unless aaron pulls is finger outLOL

my bad... we only have offcuts and none are suitable at the moment. Can always order plate throuh us though. Wink
Anywho, its only the runners the cage fouls on. The sunroof can be left in situ, cut back the runners and runner mounting box section and the cage can be fitted. Just need a welding set.

Couldn't this have been done to a s**tty Nile/blaze/Diablo phase two instead of a lovely cherry phase 1?? LOL

That aside, looks like a good project Thumbs up

How dare you!!! LOL

I know lads, i know! It pains me to do and i know the purists will hate me but it was there at the time at a great price so had to be. This cherry was actually for sale on here but no-one bought it, thats why i got it cheap. I would love to have stored it but thats not possible. All that aside, it will be a nice conversion and will be treated with respect Thumbs up

Its a better base than a rallye. They are lighter to start with.

Dans correct My Cherry Phase 1 was forsale on here for quite along time had load of Pms about it but in the end no one came through. As my other car had was already here and had no where to put her i had to give her up for cheap. Dan misses told me she would love to buy it for dan and said dan was after another Gti6 so it came at the right time really. Still will live on a as a trackslag but rather that than be in the hands of some youth lifting off and binning itLOL .

Or one of a couple of members on here buying it just to strip it of all its parts and scrap the shell. Because its a phase 1, i want to keep it retro as i love retro style cars. I have a vision for it, i just hope it turns out well LOL

So this week i have got myself some carbon for my sunroof insert which i will need to cut to shape.

Also with the help of Pete26, we started putting the inlet back together so we can get the engine running again. It has'nt run for 6 months. Will it be ok to turn over or should i dribble oil into the bores or try cranking without the plugs in first...?

It should be ok I think...might sound tappy for a minute left at idle while the oil warms up and gets in everywhere.
Don't just take my word for it though.
