Hi i got my 306 back tonight with the gti6 engine fitted , i fitted some cams i brough from rich6 it now seems to be quite lumpy on idle and the engine sounds abit tappy . Is this something that will settle down the garage said it will take awhile for the hydraulic tappits to settle , I'm only really used to working on a series engines and I would say its timings out but the garage have said its correct thyve gone from the orginal timing marks is this right ? Post #1SOLD Set of non standard cams. Base dia is approx 37.75mm Base + lift is 48.85mm Lift: 11.1 mm not sure of the make, a couple of symbols on them but not a manufacturers mark. but they dont seem to be standard which have 10mm lift if im correct. I had them in my 6 when I got it. It made good power through the rev range that didnt drop off in the higher revs. ________________________________________ Old pugs don't die they just get faster |

Lairy cams will make an engine run lumpy on idle, though they can't be too lairy as I assume you've not had any piston work? The tapping is something I'm not sure about________________________________________ 205 GTi Red - G939 RTU - Died!306 GTi 6 Diablo - Being resurrected! I don't know the history of the car i brought it and crashed it the same day then left it in a barn for 3 years till i reshelled it recently , so it's all new to me at the moment it didn't seem to noticeably tap when we started it before the cam swap , the garage mentioned something about exploded followers and they settle eventually ? He seem confident on this ________________________________________ Old pugs don't die they just get faster |

Ohh the lad i brought it from said he'd replaced the head gasket so i presume it's been skimmed and i haven't had any piston work done ________________________________________ Old pugs don't die they just get faster |

Now you mention it I'd say a light tapping/ a bit like a ticking noise it's defiantly from the cam covers ________________________________________ Old pugs don't die they just get faster |

Tapping noise will be your tappets, should settle down once the oil has warmed up and circulated around the head property and filled up the tappets. It will be lumpy if you have just fitted the cams and not had a remap. Your air/fuel will be all messed up.________________________________________ Clicky: click here remove the space between [url & = |

I suspect the tapping noise may well be from the tappets which need time to settle, however prepare yourself for the fact that the garage might not have fitted the cams correctly and could have bent a couple of valves during fitting. Let's just hope it quietens down with running first. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Did they check / use the crank pulley to time up the engine ? Should always time a 6 engine with a new or solid pulley |

I suspect timing issue so do not use the car until you have checked with a good pulley ? Tappets shut up pretty quickly after they have filled with oil |

Ok he does a lot of engine work he said he timed the cams up from marking off the orginal cams , and turned the engine over twice by hand to check the cams and rechecked them when it first started up after it was quite loud , I'm just wondering if they should be timed the same has normal or weather there timed differently ? How long does it take for the tappets to fill up ive done about 10 miles in it , its a lot quieter now than it was when it first started Thanks for the help ________________________________________ Old pugs don't die they just get faster |

You need to time the cams up properly not off std markings, But then you may have piston to valve issues, Pain with these engines unless you do a dry build________________________________________ 306 Rallye Sptint/Race Car, 205 CTI 1.9 8v to name a fewRoad, Track and Race/Rally car preparation to your personal requirements, Full Workshop & Diagnostic Facilities New and Second parts, from Plugs to Turbo's We now also carry out Routine Servicing www.pugracing.com & FB Page, https://www.facebook.com/PugRacing Ebay; http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Pug-Racing-Shop 2012/2013/2014/2019 Class Winners at Gurston Down Speed Hillclimb & Joint overall, Class record too along the way, |

After 10 miles they should be fully pressurised and stop tapping. I have a lazy lifter in mine, sometimes taps for upto 5 mins but goes away completely. There is definitely a good chance of a couple of bent valves. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

Looking at the max lift I doubt you could time those cams in properly on a standard engine anyway. If they have been fitted like normal cams and set to the standard timing pins I'd say there's a strong chance you've had some valve/piston interference Easiest way to set is by checking and adjusting the lift at TDC, as a rule on an unskimmed head you can get away with 1.4mm of lift a TDC. Anymore and you're treading on thin ice! Obviously of the heads skimmed etc you need to reduce this accordingly. There's bugger all room for aftermarket cams in gti6 engines and the valves stems are made of celery! ________________________________________ www.bridgecraftmotorsport.co.uk |

It does go well and the hesitation i think is down to the clutch but the fact it sounds like sewing machine still has me worried , if it had bent valves wouldn't it misfire ? , ________________________________________ Old pugs don't die they just get faster |
