I recently had my new beam built up and put on the car, going with 23mm bars and a 30mm ARB, this seems to be quite favoured on the forum so hopefuly ive done the correct thing! I am currently running with AVO dampers rear and AVO coilovers front, which i believe are around 280lbs springs.

Now, before i ask questions the car is 170mm and 150mm from the ground at the rear jack point and front jack point respectively. Im unsure what this translates to as a drop as i don't have a standard 306 nearby to compare. What i want to know is what kinda of rake do people run on their cars? This is a drop of 20mm across the car and im unsure if this is the correct thing to do.

Also, i think i may require help finding a setting for the rear dampers, over bumpy surfaces as found on our country lanes the car skips around a bit and under heavy braking under any steering angle its almost as if the rear wants to swing round. I can understand this is a characteristic of stiff springs, but cant help but feel that better damping would at least reduce the effect. I've currently tried 4 turns from soft and 4 back from hard settings on the rear dampers and im set at around halfway for the front.

Finally, im running 205/45/16 PE3s at 32Psi if that makes any difference whatsoever!

Cheers for any help!

Tyres are under inflated IMO

Std is 36 and I run 34 on 17s, I'd run 35 on 16s Yes

the slightly wayward feeling I would imagine is the 30mm arb!! that's significantly stiffer than standard and coupled with 23mm bars personally I feel its way ott for road use, 23mm with hybrid was wayward enough on uneven surfaces, I'm going to use 23mm with standard ARB.

140 and 143 from floor to jacking points is the standard height measurement from Autodata.

Hmm i had thought it was gonna be a bit Ott for road use but upon finding my Hybrid ARB was stuck in my old beam anyway im now pretty much stuck with it, hopefuly ill see some use out of it on track this year! So from what i gather im already at standard height with the front and im nigh on +30 at the rear? Ill have a play with tyre pressures tommorrow as that doesnt require much effort! Im nearly maxxed out raising the front coilovers, id say i have 5-10mm of adjustment left in extra height before they fall off!

What dampers were you using Mei?

I was considering running Tarmac billies rear so i have no adjustment to screw up and then talking to AST regarding somthing for the fronts.

Im really confused and want to know if the rear is higher than standard, i cant see how it would be :S!?

Too high and a bit too much rake IMO and the avo dampers will never really be up to the job of controlling your rear setup.

You shouldn't be that high on a 205/45/16 since that is almost exactly the same size as a 195/55/15 wheel, unless the axle hasn't been dropped at all and since there is no sag due to the uprated ARB & TB it's kicking you right up. You need to drop that rear to start with and then work from there I would say

Ill go out and remeasure today from sills down and arches down so i can compare against other peoples cars. If it is indeed raised instead of lowered is there anyone in the south wales area that can help me lower it next weekend as i have never done one. The beam is brand new so the bars should slide out easily!

When your beam was rebuilt, did you have solid mounts fitted? as if you have o/e rubber mounts, that would have an effect, and won't be helping

Personally, if I put 23mm bars in a beam, I'd of probably set the distance between shocker mounts, around 310mm. Maybe a touch less

There is something wrong there if the rear is 11mm out from side to side. Who built the beam, I would take it back to them and get them to sort it out Thumbs up

Are you trying to say the distance between eyes of rear shock is 185mm?

Im in South wales as of monday and wont be anywhere near the north for weeks, the ground isnt perfectly flat on my parents drive so i need to allow some variation for that, however the fact she is too high on the rear is still very much present!

If you can't get it sorted with the builder, I would take the time out to go see Jord, he knows beams inside out and if he can't sort it out then it's FUBAR'ed. Plus on the way you get to drive on some of the best roads I've ever been on if you travel from South Wales

I will do mate, the build of the beam is absolutely perfect she is brand spanking new, i can only guess the 23mm bars have provided much less sag than was accounted for Big grin The bars should pull straight out as its only been together a week today, ive just never lowered a beam and want to do it the correct way Big grin.

Ill remeasure the shocker i think..
