Just havin a browse through the 306 oc site and was wondering why everyone seems to wanna drop hdi lumps ect in a 306,i mean dont get me wrong there ok for workhorses and commuting but wheres the fun in driving a diesel 306,i can understand for insurance purposes but why not drop a 6 engine in a hdi,all i seem to read is it would be better with a hdi lump in it,it might just be me cos am not one for bummin dervs and surley the 6 will still outrun a tuned log burner![]() |

Not everyone wants outright speed from their daily driver. A GTi6 isn't exactly spectacular in a straight line but they are fun in the corners, so matching a cheaper & more efficient workhorse engine into a chassis that takes corners well makes a lot of sense to me. ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

Times change. The majority of pre 20 year old 306 owners you meet want mega MPG, be able to say they have a turbo and fit large colourful stickers up the side of the windscreen. Insurance costs probably dictate what is practical also. ________________________________________ ![]() |

i have a hdi, the boost is pretty phenominal and feels like a Focus RS torque steering. dangti6 also has one and has the same problems. they are very quick indeed. i had a gti6 and got rid of it and bought a 3dr 306 hdi and put a gti6 interior in it. it's practically the same car but different fueli really struggle keeping the steering wheel straight ________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

Dturbo hdi's attract a premium, for those not scared of a spanner a git6 is an ideal base as theyre cheap and the same spec nearly.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

because a mildly tuned one will easily keep with a gti except it will still do 50mpg. Tuning is generally cheaper and you have to drive a tuned one to see how fun they are. Derv tuning will be the way forwards in the very near future. |

You know, if you'd of said that 10 years ago I'd have laughed you out of town, but considering that a lot of the BTCC cars are now diesel it does make perfect sense. I see your point niall,in that case if you have a standard 6 engine wouldnt you just be better off gettin rid and buyin a hdi if you can squeeze near enough the same kinda performance from a mildly tuned one and as rikky said bang a 6 interior in,my question is probabily silly but it just baffled me why we drive gti6 supposidly been the 306 flagship model wen most seem to think you can have alot more fun in a hdi, with them been only 90 hp standard surley they cant be that reliable with some of the 200 hp some of them claim to be,im going to find someone to take me for a blast in one |

Peugeot do a 170 bhp 2.0 HDI in newer stuff, it is 16v mind, so basic lump is more like the 136 bhp engine though the bottom end is much the same.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Dont get me wrong, they might be just as fast in that form but it does come down to personal preference with the petrol/derv debate. Personally, i love the noise and fun of my 6 screaming to 7k. In a HDi, they always sound pretty dull. Other thing is quite often, they arent as quick as they feel. Alot of people on OC say "oh my HDi is easily quicker than a 6" when in fact, its not (i even had to prove this to someone just the other week lol). Just the boost makes it feel quicker. Oh and diesel smells s**t ![]() |

Had a mate that spent thousands on his HDi claiming it to be 170bhp, in a straight line he wasn't close and in the bends he was nowhere to be seen, but yea it was reliable engine but everything else fell apart lol________________________________________ Team 6 Cylinders |

If you know where the power is in your rev range with a gti6 there are not many diesels that are faster on the road, and tuned hdis are nowhere near!![]() I love all these reps ![]() ![]() ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

Diesel is great for workhorses - wouldn't have it any other way, however in terms of performance, give me something I can fill up with sweet smelling V-Power Unleaded anyday and unleash the revs. ![]() ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone ![]() |

Clearly a troll tbh.I've had my HDi for 8 years now and love it to bits, despite it having completed a trip to the moon and commenced the return leg. Literally put fuel in and drive - no bother. I do, as Stan infers, get a kick out of having a thirsty petrol sitting at home. I have a silly V8 to drive when i feel like it, but sometimes I am quite happy plodding along in my derv. ________________________________________ I'm Si btw![]() Night Blue VW Golf GTD Bianca LBSC Rallye - Track/Road Slag Project Thread Sparkling Silver Mini Cooper D - Super Dooper ![]() |
