Hi guys,

Where would you suggest i'm best going for a cambelt and tensioner kit for my Rallye, as well as a water pump?

Want to change them as a precaution. Peugeot seem a little on the expensive side so I wondered what else people tried and trusted. Carl uses Contitech I think?

Have used peugeot for the kits for some time, if you buy in bulk they are not to expensive.

Try the internet. I got an OE cambelt, tensioner kit and water pump for much less than retail price - and it came from a Pug dealer with an ebay shop. Similarly, acting on advice from the local Ford dealer last week I got 2 brand new genuine OE wheels still in the Ford packaging for my wife's Focus 25+% cheaper on ebay than the dealer could get them from the official network.

Be wary of gsfs "premium" waterpumps though as they are vtech and a bit shi ite

Call me old-fashioned but for vital bits like this it is OE all the way as far as I am concerned.

a lot of the time Places like GSF sell the same products but cheaper I'd never skimp on quality when it comes to Mechanical
but price is fair game!!!

Peugeot use Dayco belts anyway so I would get a Dayco kit from Gsf it will be OE quality. About £50 to me maybe less. However water pumps you can't be to careful best bet is To go genuine for about £65 iirc.

Mine isn't a desperate job since the engine is in the garage, waiting to go to an engine builder for a rebuild. Just want it for when it goes there!

Indeed stab but pointless going to Peugeot to pay twice as much for a box that says Peugeot containing a belt Kit that says Dayco lol.

Totally agree mate, I used to use SC Motor Factors a while back, as they sold the same INA tensioner and roller for a fraction of the price. I also used to use a Gates belt with it.

However, I stick with genuine now as I get it cheap enough so it's worth it.

Gates or dayco can be had from any factors and you know where I stand on pumps Yes

Yup, Gates powergrip belts are what Mitsubishi use on the majority of their engines as OE. Have fitted a few to Gti-6's before now and never had a problem. Just seems everything belt or pulley wise we get from gsf at work for French engines comes in a dayco box, and if got from Peugeot their box's have dayco stuf in lol.

Have got a few more kits, can do them for £60 these are genuine dayco kits, it's hard as I can only get these as and when.

Ok, how do you know whether you need a 136 tooth or a 137?

My original engine is listed in service box as a 136 tooth kit, but I have a replacement from a 2002 Xsara and i've no way of checking what that had seemingly. To complicate matters, the previous owners service history says they fitted a 136 tooth kit on instruction - what's the differences as I can't find the thread.

Are they interchangeable?

Yes their interchangeable the 136 kit has metal tensioner and the late type is the 137 with plastic iirc. Yours probably has the later type then but either can be fitted.

If previous owner fitted 136 then use 136, its the better choice.

ordered - 082017 timing column (136 tooth kit)
ordered - 692378 tensioner securing bolt
ordered - 083148 genuine 136 tooth timing belt kit

that's what i got for my engine. it is listed as 137 tooth but i'm changing the belt and pump anyway so ordered the 136 bits, regardless of what's on there now

keep your eye on ebay, genuine kits do pop up and a lot cheaper. i got one for £30 delivered new
