Hi all, thought my car was getting louder then did a 6 hour trip over the weekend and it suddenly got louder and deffinatly blowing somewhere. Jacked it up to find this..

Is this repairable or is a new part needed?

Thanks for any advice,

Tom

As Kev said it can be welded but dependant on how bad the crack is how thin the metal is it may not last that long

I've got a cat if you wanted a replacement

I'd weld in a new bit of pipe to the old flange/cat myself, but yes as said, easy enough to fix. Problem with a second hand cat is it could go exactly the same within weeks or months of fitting as they fail without warning.

Thanks for the advice guys! Been to my local garage this morning and they have had a look. They recommended getting a new cat and just fitting that as there pretty cheap now and the weld may only be tempory fix!

Is it easy to bolt off and bolt new one in?

If its welded properly (at a garage it wil almost certainly not be properly welded, sorry but it's true, most garages suck at welding) then it won't be a temporary fix. If the just blob up the corroded bit of pipe then it wil certainly fail in a short time. A new pipe section would be thicker and longer lasting than the original.

New cats are cheap, the ones with a 12 month warranty!!! And the fit on some are shocking.

The garage would say fit new, cause as above they are not good enough to repair it properlyYes
