As Kev said it can be welded but dependant on how bad the crack is how thin the metal is it may not last that longI've got a cat if you wanted a replacement |

I'd weld in a new bit of pipe to the old flange/cat myself, but yes as said, easy enough to fix. Problem with a second hand cat is it could go exactly the same within weeks or months of fitting as they fail without warning.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. If your car passed the MOT emmisions easily last time get it off and get it repaired If it was a close call to get through the test it's prob time to buy a new cat ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

Thanks for the advice guys! Been to my local garage this morning and they have had a look. They recommended getting a new cat and just fitting that as there pretty cheap now and the weld may only be tempory fix! Is it easy to bolt off and bolt new one in? |

If its welded properly (at a garage it wil almost certainly not be properly welded, sorry but it's true, most garages suck at welding) then it won't be a temporary fix. If the just blob up the corroded bit of pipe then it wil certainly fail in a short time. A new pipe section would be thicker and longer lasting than the original. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. New cats are cheap, the ones with a 12 month warranty!!! And the fit on some are shocking. The garage would say fit new, cause as above they are not good enough to repair it properly ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |
