And the caliper carrier. Don't know how the brakes managed to work on the drive home

Agreed. Mine was nothing like as bad as that but had clearly been owned by someone who didn't have enough money as it needed loads of stuff replacing (and it shouldn't really have had a fresh MOT with a seized and broken brake compensator and seized calipers) but it was basically sound. Another couple of years without TLC and it would have been much harder to bring back though. As it is I've spent much more than it is worth, and that is just parts as I've done a lot of work myself.

i had a so-called freshly built axle come to me just for ride height to be adjusted.

the lad ended up having a freshly rebuilt beam off me for a 3rd of the price the engineering company had charged originally!!!!!!!

in all my experience, it was definately the worst bodge i've come across from a supposed specialist company

Yes, the MOT refusal certificate stated "Warning. The vehicle is dangerous to drive". The car had only covered 4000 miles since the last MOT and had spent most of it locked in a garage.

That is fairly shocking. I have a fairly decent one on a 205 XS I bought from a friend (who had just bought it and driven it from Birmingham to Wiltshire) At the point of the picture all I had done was take the wheel off.......

I'm sure every forum plays it as at best 50%+ of companies that do car stuff take the pi$$ and get away with whatever they can - f**k the customers they are suckers, there will be another one along in a minute. I've encountered more w***ers when dealing with cars than anything else.

The thing is most people don't know what the underneath of their car looks like so it is impossible for them to tell. And even if you do, you are not there standing over people with a stopwatch checking what they are doing so it is all too easy to take the pi$$ and cover up a few bodges.

The worlds full of cowboys, agreed that when it comes to cars its worse than many other sectors, but then there are more cars than houses for instance, to many people let them off which means they carry on doing it to others.

Iv not had any issues before now on cars iv bought but this thread will keep me on my toes when i do.

Well, I'd can just about say I have wasted £700 on a pile of s**te +£100 new parts. Went to raise the beam this morning...
no caps on the ARB plates so theyre rusted solid,
the slotted stud on the one torsion bar had no longer had a slot.
On the other side the torx screw had been rammed in and stripped the thread.
The rear damper has a dent in it from hitting the beam or something
rear calipers are seized
the scorpion exhaust is tied on using wire (it's not one for a 306).

I just don't know what to do now as I am down to my last £500, with no job (I don't claim) so have no income what so ever at the moment. Everything I seem to do to that car some one has been there before and f**ked it up before hand.

I know right now that I need
New rear calipers
Exhaust from downpipe back
rear pads and disks
rear dampers
front struts
drop link
welding under the wheel arch
new rear hub due to stripped threads
and a rear beam.

And thats all I know about so far - (not bad considering it was supposed to be ball joint and front disks).

I just don't think it's worth doing and I don't think it's worth breaking as everything is naffed and I wouldn't be happy selling parts in case they are.

So now I'm stuck between taking the engine out and the new disks and pads I've put on and scrapping it, putting on ebay with no tax or MOT and get naff all for it. Or throw more money at it and hope the problems stop sooner or later

If I had no job and not much money, the last thing I would buy is a GTi6. If I was you i'd take that £500 to Casino and stick it all on black.

Not planning on breaking it, not worth it as the only thing I'd be happy to sell is the seats as theres only a small whole in the bolster from a cigarette lighter, and the front discs and pads as they are new and haven't done 20miles
