Ive just bought some trackday/sprintevent wheels

new High Gloss black Pro Race 1.2 with new 205/40/17 Toyo R888 in the medium compound , as i also will be driving these on the streets

the 18" Volks will get another makeover and will be swapping wheels every once and then..

Ive only read good reviews on the R888s, other that they wear down pretty quick

your thoughts?????????

Wear down very quick, not very good in the wet but I found them awesome in the dry.

If you can leave them as just track tyres then I would, unless they do minimal road miles

Decent track tyre for the money, I wouldn't be using them on the road myself as they wear pretty quick but it's your money.

I've heard very good things about Federal RSR as a road tyre but I don't think they sell them in '6 compatible sizes...

I wouldn't use any other tyre now personally. However, with that in mind I don't do many wet miles so they may not suit someone who wants an everyday tyre.

There a good trackday tyre. Getting expensive now days.

Have used kumho V70's and there as good as the 888's.

Going to try these federal RSR's next.

Its obviously not a tyre designed for wet use as such, but equally don't be scared into thinking the first drop of rain will have you careering off the road. I've done a fair few road and track miles on these in the wet they were alright. Avoid deep motorway puddles though as they don't disperse the same volume of water as many road tyres so tend to aquaplane easier

Some good advice here because i keep hearing they are a bit ohh err in the wet but on tire ratings site people say they are ok in rain. This talk is mostly on forums talking pub talk.

Have used them for years. Tried Yoko A048's and felt R888's more predictable.

Am looking at other options now due to the cost of R888's.

I have some 195 50 15 Federal RS-R's on order for the 180 s**tter, much cheaper than R888's, and supposedly nearly as good, good enough for me anyway

What are people's thoughts on Toyo R1R's?

About £170 cheaper than R888's for a set of 4 fitted.

888's great in the dry. For track start them about 26-28 PSI cold and they need to be 32 PSI hot with no more than 15 degrees difference across the tyre. In the wet they are fine, still predictable, obviously not large amounts of standing water and they are no comparison to wet tyres.

I'd be interested to hear about the R1R as they too are a List 1B tyre. Personally I think they would to wear more compared to the 888 since they have more 'blocks' and therefore this will generate more heat in the rubber and therefore potential to overheat if driven hard.

Sorry, no idea. I got the above details from Toyo's technical and motorsport manager. Try starting at 26 PSI cold and see what they are at after a drive, and go from there.

Can't imagine they last very long on the road though.

I love my 888's on track and on the road, they do keep you alert when there’s a decent amount of standing water.

I can’t remember what PSI I ran on the road, I know on track it was around 24/26 to start with from memory, then after a session out adjusted each corner as required, obviously that all depends weather temps too.

Depending on your driving style I can’t see you getting them to track temperatures?! So maybe start at 28 and go from there.

You won’t be disappointed with them, enjoy.
