Has anyone on here got any experience in using Evans Powercool 180? I've heard some awesome reviews with people saying it is a must have for track days, especially since the 6 runs at such a high temperature anyway (Mine even higher when the head gasket went)

Since it doesn't boil till 180 degree's then there is no pressure in the system as it doesn't expand, so it is meant to put a lot less pressure on the engine aswell. I just wanted to know if there is anything to look out for when using it?

Plus does anyone know the capacity of the cooling system on a 6?

guy i know with a 300 odd bhp 205 turbo swears by this stuff, difference was night and day apparantly

Well contrasting reports there, so still up in the air. I've read that almost anyone with a turbo/supercharger swears by it, but nothing so far on the N/A side of things.

What is so bad about it then Phillip, plus since your here what is the price on your lower strut braces and when are you expecting to get the uppers designed?

1.) The amount of hassle needed to flush the system down plus filling it (plus carrying a bottle everywhere in case you spring a leak...)

2.) The price.

3.) It's worse at carrying heat away than water is. So the engine runs hotter.

so whats the idea behind it? other than being good at preventing corrosion?

i remember watching a thing on wheeler dealers about this stuff, on an old Triumph because it didnt

No, it's similar to just sticking pure glycol straight in the cooling system. 'Water Wetter' is a surface tension modifier, like washing up liquid.

Well I assumed (probably incorrectly) if you are running this in the car and it has a boiling point then the car isn't overheating because it is the water that is overheating in the car? The metal engine, gaskets and motor oil are all designed to much higher temps so it isn't overheating it is just running hot. Since the water isn't boiling there is nothing putting extra pressure on the system so shouldn't blow anything either?

Also it just seems like one of those things where they are like

"Buy this, It doesn't matter how hot your engine is now"

Where are personally i would think, Just sort out your issue, or upgraded the cooling system properly.

The liquid is 70 quid but a new nissens rad is sometimes as low as 130
Then you have better fans etc which imo will all work out as better value.

If the coolant is running hotter, then the hotspots they babble on about within the engine are running hotter, potentially leading to pre-ignition, plug failure, bearing failure because the oil will be taking so much more heat away, etc, etc.
Also, the pressure in the cooling system is sweet naff all even when boiling compared to internal pressures and oil pressure, etc. The only reason it looks so bad when you spring a leak is because once the pressure escapes the boiling point of the coolant drops and it all rapidly boils off, and with the expansion rate of steam compared the volume of water, it looks like massive amounts of pressure. It's not.
And of course, the problem there is, it's the leak that sets it off in the first place, not vice versa.

If you have a massively overkill cooling system and it's for a mueseum piece so you don't have to worry about coolant changes/corrosion, maybe you'd do it (Or just stick damn near straight antifreeze in) But otherwise. No.

these engines run most efficiently around 88-89 degrees, so having a higher boiling point is, pointless.

Ah right, that is the answer I needed. That's why when the head gasket went on mine it didn't like running at 110 in traffic then? Somehow the little thing has been parked up for 18 months whilst I get some money together, put jump leads on it and it started first time even with the old petrol in it. Who said that Peugeot are badly made cars!
