i've done that for years and never cracked a windscreen btw

my brother who fitted windscreens said it was largely a myth and, unless it was an absolutely battered or stonechipped / overly repaired / cracked screen previously where moisture could get in, that was likely to never happen

Try telling that to the bloke on the Megane forum, bought his new Mk3 Megane 250, had it three weeks then there was a frost, poured hot water on and it cracked horizontally right across the screen! Laugh

could have had a chip or anything in it you just never know.. i wouldn't worry too much. then again it's only ever warm water, not *hot* that i pour on mine

i've heard of extreme temperature change smashing windows though, bowen i think on here had a side window shatter on the motorway for no reason whatsoever when driving. until one of my windows smashes i'll carry on pouring warm water onto the frozen screen LOL

I'm not worried, just thought it was funny.

Have always used warm water too, never had a problem.

Just makes me laugh when you see people going out to their cars with steaming kettles!

This happened to me last year or the year before. Left in the garage for a couple of nights without any heating and bobs your uncle.

^ this as same hapend to my dads old 4.6 x5, stuck it in the garage and it defrosted over 2 nights Thumbs up. My bet is that u used a pre mixed coolant and thought its a 5ltr system when really its between 7-8ltrs. Turns out thats not a very strong mix

I've had this happen, as said let it thaw, when you think it is all okay try to turn the engine by hand first, the water in the rad may well be okay but the water pump could still be frozen solid and you'll throw your cambelt if you crank it on the starter.

I needed my car the day after so spent about 3 hours with the kettle and boiling water on the hob and continuously pouring it over the rad and all the pipes till I was happy to start it. I was mixing The hot with cold until it was about the limit of putting my hands in and that did no damage to anything.

    try squeeze top/bottom rad hoses.

Or can try adding alcohol to expansion tank to defreeze

How exactly did you 'park' it in the garage?

Not by starting it I hope...Dunno

Something not right here 2 litres of antifreeze would be sufficient to stop the system freezing up ? Yes
