i've been pondering for ages about this so i thought i'd see what other folks would do if they were in my position.

lets say i want to buy another car but there are limitations that would need to be taken into consideration when deciding what to buy

the budget:
2K

manufacturer:
not fussed

characteristics of the car:
sporty, doesn't need to be mega quick but something with a bit of poke and can handle a corner aswell

requirements:
needs to be decent on fuel Ninja (better than a six Shut up)
needs to have more than two seats

thought i'd try and get a good little debate going as most people say you can't have good performance AND good mpg out of a sporty performance car Whistle

i should have expected everyone to be biased and say a six or a rallye, but i should have stated, and for the record, I ALREADY HAVE ONE SO I DON'T WANT ANOTHER ! LOL

To be honest a RenaultSport Clio is worth considering for all the points you mentioned.

High 30s with mixed driving, well within your budget and are more rewarding to drive.

    Saab Aero. Won't get much quicker for £2k and that would include a remap. My old one was circa 240bhp and averaged 32mpg.

    to be fair i've been looking into civics, what does everyone think about them? which ones a good shout, (not s**t on fuel while in town ect)

    no no, far from it, i know f**k all about them, all i know is you look like a complete twonk when your driving it as they're quite femininely styled and the pug is better to drive in my opinion Thumbs up

    They do look a fair bit different than a normal Clio though. Wider wings, different bumpers etc.

    Where as a HDi '6 will rarely be seen as a GTi to a bystander unless you mention it or point the badges out.

    You musn't worry too muh about your macho image.

    So you have driven an RS after all then?

    306 is much better looking outside but Clio is more modern, better built (?), better interior and might be better dynamically? Dunno never driven one.

    What lets the 306 down is the thin panels and the not-very-good interior. Otherwise it is as good or better than drive/looker than much more expensive and newer cars. And is fairly simple underneath as well - if I can work on it, it must be.

    OP, the 306 GTI-6 and Rallye is one of the great driving experiences irrespective of price.

    As alternatives I'd consider a fairly limited list of a Mercedes 190 Cosworth 2.5, a 1990 Audi quattro 20v, a 1984 Audi 80 quattro, a Porsche 968 Club Sport, a Porsche 924 GT, a tweaked Ford Focus ST 2006 - 11, an Audi RS2 1994-96, a BMW E46 M3, some late-1980s Alpina 3 or 5 series, or maybe a couple of other cars I can't think of at present, but none of these comprehensively outclass the 306 GTI-6 or Rallye for driving enjoyment and tactility. Because the 306 GTI-6/Rallye are so cheap at present we don't value them.
