Plan today is doors, bonnet and drivers seat fitted, battery in and electrics checked, buff over the bonnet, wings and B-pillars then I'm off for 48 hours of precious freedom Smile

Had a good day on the truck yesterday. Got the electrics sorted (lots of green connectors, damaged wires and broken cable holders from accident damage and s**te mechanics that do half a lob then leave wires and pipes chafing away on sharp edges...) got the slam panel on, rad mounts on and bonnet release mechanism connected up.

Spray-waxed the bonnet (and my face when the gun backfired, god that s**t takes some washing off!) got lights in, door seals, lock strikers and door surrounds hung, mounted the doors.

We then fitted the bonnet, which due to the accident damage (one of our old drivers rear-ended someone) didnt fit as well as I'd hoped and took an hour or so tweaking the hinges to get it reasonable. But by this time ice was forming on our tools and at 9pm on a Friday felt a pressing need to be elsewhere so you'll have to wait for Monday to see the results. (needs a bumper and an offside indicator anyway).

Thanks Rich, the passengers side bonnet hinge needs a bit more adjusting but I'm happy with how it's turning out, I'll be even happier when it's off my forecourt for good LOL

This is what I'm on with today...

Cutting out the rotten bottoms in the chassis rails, nice...

Old vs New...

Got these nice channels folded up to speed up the repair and make a better job of it...

As for colour choice, it's the company colour scheme, sorry Owain Smile

What's the plan with the back, is the structure simple enough you can basically just re-build it from scratch then bolt on axles and such? Or is there too much going on?

Very simple ladder chassis on them, rare do the actual rails themselves go, usually the outriggers or the tops from where the floor is spot welded on top.

mind you, I haven't been under a mk5 for some time as most have been scrapped LOL

Unfortunately Ford in their 'wisdom' used a double section in the bottoms of the chassis rails. The rails are essentially a deep box section, but they spot welded a C-section channel inside the box at the bottom, this makes it lovely and strong when new, however it creates a perfect place to trap water and rot blowing the two sections apart and causing the chassis to crack, hence chopping out the rotten bottoms of the box and welding in new channel.

Got the other chassis leg repair patch welded in today, here by myself so lost count of the number of times I've crawled under the truck only to have to wriggle out to answer the phone or serve a customer. But anyway, it's in now, not much welding left to do now, there's a bit of rot needs sorting by the rear spring hangers on each side then fingers crossed that's it!

    Beers tonight I think Smile
