Door painted, a little disappointed as the filler soaked up a little degreaser which then reacted with the topcoat a bit...

Oh well, I'll flat it back when the paints gone hard and try again. Here's my repair, it's just about visible but the window rubber covers most of it...

I'm pretty happy with the finish considering I'm a welder not a sprayer and the conditions aren't ideal...

Bit more chassis repair at the back end and some painting to do on the side boards and I can forget about Transits for a while Smile

Haha! Thanks, it''s not that impressive, I'm average at lots of jobs. This truck ain't going to win any concourse awards, all it's got to do is earn us money for five or six years and look presentable while doing it. Compared to how it looked previously I'd say mission accomplished.

Quite, thing is if you're good enough to be happy with it (and more than good enough to be acceptable), think of the money you've saved yourself by doing all that yourself. Would've cost you thousands to get someone else on the case.

Oh definitely, there's just no way you could contemplate contracting out this kind of work, it's not remotely viable, but my spare time costs me nothing and I benefit from the truck, indirectly at any rate. Plus it's been a valuable learning experience, as said before I'm looking forward to getting back on with the race car when the weather improves a little and making some progress.

Why not combine your knowledge and build a racing Transit?

Don't joke, the more I've been working on the more I've been falling for it's shape! The engine bay is huuge and would quite easily swallow a smallblock Chevy, I'm seriously tempted to build a sleeper Transit with a blown V8 under the bonnet to f**k with peoples heads. Kind of like that Transit with the XJ220 engine and drivetrain that was on Top Gear! Cool

Fitted a kill switch to isolate the starter motor today, anything to make the bugger a bit harder for the Pikeys to steal as it will look a bit more desirable now it's not rust coloured...

Doors were spray waxed inside to help against corrosion, fitted new locks as the old ones were worn out, replaced the torn old membrane with some plastic sheeting we had kicking around...

Then gave the door a good going over with 1500 grit wet/dry to de nib and flat it prior to a good machine polish, left me with a not too shabby result...
