Right where do i start....

I will do this project thread as a sort of story about me and how i got into the 306 scene as some of you know me and some of you dont. Then as i have explained a fair bit, my latest project will unfold. (By this point you're probably thinking 'skip to next page so i can see pictures and not listen to this donkey drone on'Wink
By now you have probably realise that my spelling and punctuation are not great but im sure some of you ( rikki/owain ) will correct me.
So if i do offend anyone with my spelling and lots of talking...tuff s**t, its's my project thread so read someone else's project if you dont like it. Smile

Back in 2005 my saxo vts got rear ended.
Now for me this was as issue, not because my car was buggered but because i always knew what car i would be wanting next.
I looked at loads of things cupra's, alfa's, vw's, jap stuff etc etc.
After a few months someone suggested a 306 gti 6. Now i had never came across one round my way and didnt know much about them.
So i joined a thriving forum ( the old 306gti6.com ) and got to know about the car a bit. Then i set about trying to find one. At the time they were still selling for around 4-5k. I didnt have the budget for this as i was skint at the time and didnt get much payout from the saxo.

Now i really wanted a silver one as i had an idea to do the wheels black or grey ( yes in 2005 before every other bugger) but i could not find a silver one for my budget.

So eventually i ended up buying a black P reg early phase 2 306 gti 6 for 2.5k, this was very cheap at the time as the guy was desperate for money. (pics of the black 6 to follow as i cant find my memory stick)

My 1st thoughts of the car were quite mixed. I liked the speed but it was horrible to drive ( had a courtesy car for 4 months). I kept with it and within a few weeks, got hooked and thats when the social life and wallet became very thin. Smile

Anyways i had the black one for 18 months and done lots of bits to it. Then one day i came across this on autotrader Love

Sorry for small pics. Oncei find my memory stick with all my pics, i will update this thread.


After realising is was only 5 miles away from me i swiftly got on the phone to the seller.
T reg, 60k, 1 owner from new, not modified and only £2500 but not mot or tax. ( at the time i could have mot'ed this and slung 6 months tax on it and easily got £3999 for it, but i wanted it Smile )
So after another phone call to the parents, 'please please please lent me 2.5k, i promise to be a better son and pop round more often blah blah blah'.
I headed round to see the car with a mate with traders plates and snapped it up for £2300 iirc.

I then set about taking all the good bits from my black 6 and swapping them over to the white one

and after a few months of doing bits, she looked like this Love Love



I then sold the black one to a forum member on here and its changed hands a few time's. I belive its still floating about now.

So after having the white one for around 6 months or so i got bored of 6 ownership and sold it to my mate laura a gorgeous blonde, she charmed my pants off and got it for bugger all £2k

I set out to buy a bmw 330ci msport but could not find one i wanted ( dark blue with black leather ) so after a few months of scrounging lifts off everyone i ended up buying this Sad







Now i'm not saying this car was s**t or anything but i fooking hated it.
The interior was nice but that was about it so after 6 months or so, i got shot of it.




By this time i had lost my 50k a year job and was potless. Moved back home and had bugger all money.
I bought a 02 plate vts for a few quid and potted about in that.

Then sold that and bought a mk6 ford escort gti and i must say, it was a great car. Totally standard and not one spot of rust.
I dont like fords really but this car was great, it never went wrong and i made my money back 2 years later.






So after a few months of unemployment, i got very bored of the xbox and my parents moaning at me to get a job.
I saw a nile blue gti 6 on pistonheads for £600 that was in my area and i thought to myself 'hmmm, i will break that and make a few quid'. ( when breaking them could earn you good money )

But i am skint, i wont sell the escort in time before someone snaps this up, so i groveled to the g/f and whola, she only went and lent me it LOL

So i went to go and look at it, the guy had only bought it as a stop gap and now had his new car so wanted rid for cheap.


It had 100k on the clock with a stainless exhaust etc and dented wings, previously cat d. But it didnt matter as it was a breaker right??

NO..... of course that didnt happen.
As soon as i drove it home, i realised how much i missed mine. Specially as i had a escort gti at the time that would not pull the skin off a rice pudding.

After a few days i decided to look through the full service history and discovered it had been into lad motorsport Shock and had 3k spent on engine work.

I found the previous owners number in the paper work and rang him.
He confirmed that he took it there and spent a few quid on it etc etc.

So 6 months later..
It this was dilema time, i had promised to get the gf her money back but i wanted to keep the 6.
The escort just was not selling and we was deep in recession and i could not find a job.

So i had to break the 6 as it was not worth keeping and spending money on it being a cat d and all and i also did not have the money to get the wings sorted.

Breaking day arrived.
Chris ( farmer ) came to help strip it at a mates yard.


Then owain turned up ( sorry no photo's of him and he was to busy under the car )
and we proceeded to strip the s**t out of the car.

Chris had to go so owain and myself decided to get the engine out. Now having never taken out a 6 engine ( me or owain) we decided to get a electric saw out and cut off the nearside chassis leg to make things easier LOL

After owain had gone, my mate and me decided that the shell should be attacked with a hammer....



My mate got so hammer happy he ended up going through most of the roof while my brother and me attacked the rest of the car...




So next day i needed to get rid of the shell but i didnt have the money to pay someone to collect it so.........


I broke out the electric saw again Smile



I then loaded this lot up in my mates van and we took it to the scrappy, who i may add had a very hard time beleving me that it was my car and its not stolen LOL

I decided to keep the engine as it had had a few quid spent on it. I knew i would eventually get a job so i put the engine in storage ready for my next 6.
It sat there for a couple of years collecting dust and i finally got a really good job and bought another ( 4th ) 6.

Ok chaps, this is now the end of my story and it takes me up till the tail end of last year when i got my new 6Big grin

The next part of my project thread is an actual project thread, not me rambaling on about no job etc etc.

So i am sixwaysforward (ben) and this was my story of how i got into 306's and why im still here.

The actual project thread.
I finally ended up with a silver gti 6 that i had wanted since 2005.

The late silver one i had always wanted Love

I found her on piston heads for not much money due to it being a tapper and having no history.










PERFECT or so i thought.
Just drop my engine in from my old 6 ( read 1st post ) and put the history with it.

WRONG
Its not just that simple as the old engine had been sitting for 2 years so it was going to need a cam belt kit/ water pump etc and while it was out it would be silly not to change the head gasket right??


So i decided that i should take the old engine apart to see what had actually been done to it as when i rang lad motorsport, they just said 'yes uprated everything, pistons cams etc etc for fast road'.

When i took it apart it didnt look overly played with till i posted up a thread with some pics of the engine etc.







The head had been opened up ported etc and it had different pistons, so i started to get excited.
Then my bubble got burst when you guys said they were 206 xsi pistons with a deeper pocket's ( dam f**k s**t bloody lad motorsport ).

So after closer inspection it seems the bores had some scratching and you guys advised me not to re use it, or get it re honed etc etc.

Now i can do most things car wise but engine building is not my forte.

So after speaking to a few of you, i decided to get the head from this engine put into my car with the tapping head.

Now i thought i would give this ago but after a few sleepless night about timming it back up i decided to take it to someone to get it sorted.


After speaking to a couple of the recommended guys on the forum i decided to take it to carl chambers as he was only 70 miles away and he said it can be done in a day as i needed to be able to drive home again after.

So a few weeks to go untill i was booked in at carl's i decided to start buying some goodies.
After a chat with rich walker i ended up with a billet flywheel, alloy pullie and one of his headgasket kits.

A quick call to simon at peuget ( yes we are now on 1st name terms and i now get trade prices LOL )
i ordered a cam belt kit, water pump, all nessasary gaskets.

Then a quick call to ecp to filters, oil, plugs, thermostat etc.

Love what you did to the Nile... Should have put it in Tate Modern LOL Better than a pile of bricks or an unmade bed Zzz

Need to change their name to "Jack the Lad Motorsport" Thumbs down I was trying to think who owned this car as I remember the photos you posted about 6 months ago? Best Silver '6 on the forum IMO Smile

So by this point i was starting to build up a bit of a collection including a new new shiney strut brace from demon tweeks.



Then i got into swampy for some strut brace bolts and got that fitted.




Then came the day to go to carl's.
I left nice and ealry and get there before him so the car could cool down for a while
Loaded up the car and made my way.





Defently in the right place.


Anyways so carl got there and proceded to get the car into the workshop.
Now at this point carl asked me if i wanted a lift into town as the car would be a while and i said, 'nah i will just hang about'.
I would like to say a big thank you to carl for putting up with me watching him work. I bloody hate it when people do it to me but i just could not resist.


A couple of pic's through out the day









Before i knew it, carl had worked his magic and got it finished.

My head fitted, rich w headgasket, rich w alloy pullie, waterpump, new plugs and a clutch cable as its a 10 min job with the head off etc etc

No more tappy head thank f**k for that.
Turns out some kent had only put 4 aftermarket valves in the other head after a cambelt snap at some point. They must have thought the other 4 were ok but obviously not.

Off i trotted home a very happy boy.

By the time i got home i had already stared buying more bit ready for when i was booked back in to go to carls to get the billet flywheel done and a new clutch.

So after speaking to simon at peugeot again, i got a genuine valeo clutch kit, fork arm bushes, drive shaft seals, cranks shaft seal, gearbox oil etc For about £150 LOL

So off to carls i went again to get everything else fitted as i didnt fancy getting the box off my car on the drive.

For the eagle eyed viewer you will notice i got some black masks in between the 2 trips to carls, forgot to mention that earlier.








Again carl did a fantastic job. highly recommended.

Wow, what a transformation. It really rev's well with that flywheel. I would recomend one to them to anyone.

Right so over the past couple of months since carl did my flywheel, i have done a few bits like xsara mist washers, steering wheel remote etc.

Then i found a nice 406 coupe auto dimming rear view mirror so i got that fitted.


I got 2 weeks off work so i could get on with some cars bits as the suspension is fooked and handles like a washing machine.

So i started ordering new bits and was just going to order some new b8's and eibach's and then got very p**sed off as everything i had previously bought was turning up on the forum for alot less than i payed so i though sod this and started buying bits off other members.

So darrengti came up trumps with a set of bilstein b8's with h&r springs so i snapped them up.

Annoyingly i wanted eibach springs so after a wanted add in the forum, silky came up with some eibachs and he is only 10 miles away so i popped round and bought them.

Then jord popped up with a ptfe inlet manifold gasket and new wishbone bushes, so i bought them.

Bought a couple of throttle body gaskets from rikky.

Then i got involved with the engine painting Smile

I needed to swap my cam cover's over due to the seals on mine were buggered, lucky enough carl managed to seal them up for me to get home.


But of course they looked s**t so i popped over to halfords and got some zince etch primer, primer and alu silver vht paint and did this within 2 hours.








But of cousre, it made the rest of the engine bay look like utter s**t.
So i got my spare maifold out out and did the same. Its not fitted yet, it will be later this week.

So then a week or so ago, my car had been parked on the drive facing slightly downhill for a few days in the rain.
Went for a quick drive one night and before i knew it there was smoke pouring out of my bonnet and i could smell burning.

After s**tting my pants and pulling over i popped the bonnet to find the sound deadening had fallen apart due to the bonnet seal coming away, the water coming in soaking it and dropped onto the inlet manifold and started to catch alight.

I lucky enough had a new can of redbull in the car so i swiftly put it out with this and spent the next 30 mins trying to dig out all the stuff from the exhaust manifold with a 9 iron and a stubby flat bladed screwdriver so it didnt happen again.

Oh and ripped off the bloody sound deadening. Sad





Anyways, fastforward to today.
1st day off out of 2 weeks.

I started stripping down the car ready to de rust the engine bay, fit my pained inlet manifold, maybe a new rad, fix the aircon. Later this week i will changing all the bushes, tre's, arb's, disc's pad's, braided line's, suspension etc etc.

So armed with a ipod and lots of coffee, i got cracking and ended up with the car like this by 5.30pm ( started at 1.30pm )










It was at this point when i thought..........


The s**t just got real, i f**king hope i can put this lot back together.

Another update on tomorrow's progress will be up tomorrow or wednesday.

I wouldn't trust too much on them pug scissor jacks though, have heard a few horror stories!

Pug scissor jack was only there to get the wheels off mate, i would not go underneath with that jack.

Plus the car is to low and i cant get the trolly jack under the car unless i go up a couple of inches on the pug jack. Smile

So the over due update is here.

I stripped the car as you can see aove and got set to sort the rust issues out.
I had a fair ammount of rust under the bonnet.


So with the aid of some tools and sand paper i got to work on removing the surface rust.





Then broke out the hammerite krust, treated the rust.
Then put the bilt hamber electrox stuff on it all.
Waited for that to dry and primer and painted it.

Now i wanted to go all coskev on the car but by this point is was cold and raining and i started running out of time to get the car put back together, but its rust protected and looks better than it did.

The new paint is now slightly dirty and matches the car. And yes i did use eycc peugeot silver paint.

In between cotes of primer and paint etc i made a start on cleaning up my fuel rail ready for painting and de greasing the tb and putting my newly painted inlet manifold back together.










I spent the best part of 2 hours cleaing up the tb and it looked worse after i had finished so by this point i was p**sed off and just left it as you see above. I am to impatient to rub it all down and paint all the timy gaps so it would have to do.

So i started to put the car back together with a ptfe inlet gasket bought from jord and fitting shinney manifold bolts from swampy



Annoyinly at the point i went to re fit my cda to discover that after having a few beers and then ordering a nice shinney red silicone intake pipe, i had ordered a 45 degree pipe, not a 90 degree Doh

So it went back together with the standard pipe for now.





Now at this point i had most of the car back together, rad blad ( which was an arse by the way as it would not self bleed ).

So i started her up to find that where i had taken out the fuel pressure regulator to paint the rail. I had not managed to seal it back in and the car proceeded to p**s out bp ultimate everywhere.

Balls.

So i got out a g clamp and tried to pop it back in properly to which the regualtor decided to be a epic c**t and not seal up. Oh and bend the g clamp




It still would not seal up properly so after speaking to a few people on here that said its a pig of a job, i broke out my spare fuel rail and painted that. But this time i let the regulator in and masked round it.
( no pics of this )

Then then next day after leaving the fuel rail hanging in the airing cupbord overnight to dry ( i do not reccomend this by the way, all my bed sheets smell of sodding paint now )
i got it fitted to the car to discover that while removing the other fuel rail, i had split the fuel pipes Doh

So a quick trip to a local factors for some fuel pipe £1.50 later, i had a running car with no fuel leaks. Yay )

I then realised that where the fuel had spirted out the day before, it had got on my drivers with and taken the bloody paint off.

f**k s**t c**t w**k ball's.

Wing will be re painted next month.
