I've noticed recently there has been a sudden influx of driving instructors (in Bristol) who are teaching the young 'uns to drive in hot hatches. DS3's are popular and also Corsa VXR's and others and these are proper stickered up learner cars. In my day you would be lucky to drive anything more than a 1.1 s**tbox. Anybody else have this around your area?________________________________________ Less than 24 hours to go! |

Mind you, a lot of the instructors don't look much older than the learners so I imagine in the evening, off come all the stickers and then they use the car for tearing up the streets. ________________________________________ Less than 24 hours to go! |

^^^ +1 to that, I was rocking the burgandy Metro look back when I took lessons. Spent most of the time bricking it that the car would stop as the instructor would always turn up with bugger all fuel in the car and the light would be on for the whole time. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. Jesus I cant believe I let a woman teach me to drive. It was back when theory tests had literally just come out, so about 1997 and I kept failing due to me being so paranoid that every question was a trick question, so I answered wrongly even though I knew the actual answer. What a plum! I passed my actual test first time though. |

Also learnt to drive in a metro 1.1L 4 speed tan coloured piece of crap....but at least my instructor would launch the car outside of school where he used to pick me up.... I steered and he did the pedals for the first 2 or 3 lessons from school. Felt a hero in that metro....Half the learner cars round here are lookalike motors with 1.4 vxr looking kits and I know the citrons are the basic deisels by us... ________________________________________ 306 less for first time in nearly 7 years. I know a couple of people who learned in older diesels, passed their tests then spent the next few weeks constantly stalling petrols as they thought all cars had that much torque low down. I think Ian's right - instructors can't afford to run two cars anymore, so whatever they teach in they have to drive themselves when they're not working. Extra insurance, fuel and maintenance must be a nightmare. Bigger tyres, servicing costs more, brakes cost more, very odd. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |
