What torsion bars are you running? I'd think the rear would need to be quite stiff to take that strength springs.

Things I need to buy / do before it goes back out again:
- New tyres
- Rollcage bought and fitted
- Camber adjustable top mounts
- Rollerbearing bushes
- New hubs and bearings
- Strip ABS
- Fit extinguisher and race battery
- New race seat and harnesses

Possibly neg camber trailing arms as well

I've got hybrid anti roll bar and 25.something mm Peugeot sport torsion bars. Not very comfortable on the road I can assure you, but awesome on track. Brands was the first time I've been out with them. Only did a half day and I shared that with someone and it rained on the last half of it so haven't really been out properly. I've got adjustable top mounts but I don't think they give enough neg camber...

Should be ok with 25mm TBs. I'm only running 23.5mm and 350lb springs, will go stiffer one day but the cage will help a lot.

Since I'm changing hubs anyway I might get them machined for negative camber...

Yeah good idea, I may do that too.. or modify the strut tops for more, but I've gotta get the rears done at some point anyway.

Finally uploaded one of the videos. Not our fastest session but good enough. Can hear the amount of tyre squeal we were getting as well.

What camera's do you use and how do you get them in one video like that? Can you do that with 2 go pro's? Cheers

What's that I hear you all cry, you'd like an update? Well sure, here you go!

So, I began work on getting the wheel bearings and flange replaced 2 weeks ago. I got the the point where the hub was out of the car and ready to get the bearings and flange out. This turned into a horribly slow job but I managed to get one out before deciding just to give it to the local garage to use their press on it instead. While I was there they also took the old bushes off the wishbones as well. Ended up taking 2 hours and using a crazy amount of different tools! All sorted in the end but they took the pins for the front bushes away to be re-engineered so waiting for them to come back.

Few pictures:

Yesterday I refitted the hubs to the driveshaft and suspension strut. I still didn't have the pins back from the engineers so couldn't get the wishbones fitted which was a bit of the pain but I decided to buy new TREs and balljoints while everything was apart.

Lovely Lemforder parts Big grin

At this point I decided to strip out the entire brake system and ABS loom as I'm running my own brake system with bias valve etc.

The entire brake system and ABS loom!

Nice bit of space in the engine bay

I'll be refitting everything and running the new brake system in a couple of weeks once I've ordered all the new parts in.

I picked them up from ECP, fairly certain both are Febi's, I know 1 is definitely but can't remember about the other.

It was surprisingly satisfying to remove the brake system and I'm quite looking forward to putting the new stuff in!

So quite a lot has gone on in the last few weeks! I finished up rebuilding the front suspension with the new flanges, wheel bearings, balljoints and track rod ends.

Few photos:

We had an issue with the offside caliper where one of the bleed nipples wasn't seating correctly causing a small weepage when out on track. I sent the caliper off to have the thread drilled out and helicoiled so that's solved the problem there Smile

I've also stripped out and replaced the brake system with my own custom pipes. Had a few issues with some flares not being good enough so we had to redo them, bit of a pain but all part of the learning process.

I've bought a cage now, ready to be fitted soon. Currently being used as an expensive coat stand! Big grin

We went out on track yesterday for the first time since having done all the work. The car went really well, the first stint was very damp which caused a few scary moment! Once the track had dried out we managed to get some good dry running in, lapping at around 1 min 1 second mark, similar to the last session. Sadly the tyres were on their way out so front grip was very bad, lots of understeer and tyre squeal! The guys next to us were a motorsport prep company so they gave us some tips on how to setup the car so we stiffened the rear a bit which helped with getting the car turned in but it needed more. I've just bought a set of adjustable camber top mounts that should help us with turn in next time we go out on track.

The brakes are phenomenal, even with the Brembo pads on. Going to get some new pads soon and see how it copes with them but I will definitely need new tyres first or I will be locking up all the time.

Update time!

I've slowly been amassing parts to rebuild the front suspension, again... This time was to add some camber and fit upper and lower strut braces. Bought myself a Ripp lower strut brace (conveniently in red to match the colour of the car...)

Fitting was more difficult then I thought it would be as, unsurprisingly, the brace is slightly narrower than the chassis. Luckily with the help of the air gun, it got fitted eventually:

I also bought a pair of adjustable top mounts:

Fitting was also slow as we had to drill out the holes and tap a thread into them. We also had to make some adjustments to the mounting points of the top mount into the body as the holes didn't quite line up. At the end of it, it all fitted ok:

And the resulting camber was pretty good!

Finally we fitted the upper strut brace:

Earlier this week I ordered my new tyres, they should be delivered on Friday. Rollcage should be getting fitted in Jan.

Don't think so. We'd talking about 0.5cm out so nothing too bad.

They're all clamped down on a jig for fitting and welding though...

Did you push the brace all the way up before pushing the bolts home, or vice versa?
As the bolts are angled away from each other slightly in the subframe, so if they're home before the brace is right up it will make it appear too narrow.

Yea, that's probably what I did. It didn't take the air gun much effort at all, I just didn't want to hammer the bolts. It just catches the sump so we get a bit more vibration in the car but nothing too bad.

Sometimes they just catch that bottom pipe you can see in the photo, if you slacken the mounting bolt on the pipe and push it up it should go away.

They should be the other way up for safety reasons. if the fastener works loose, it cant drop out as the head won't fall through - yours will if the nuts undo.

How many degrees of camber did you measure at the front wheels there? That looks a hell of a lot...?

Id say you will eat the inside of the new tyres quicker than you can get another set ordered and delivered.

I guess there is a chance is just the angle on the pictures, but it definitely looks too far in my opinion.

Using my inaccurate iPhone gyro we guessed at about 5 degrees. It probably does need toning down a bit, will figure it out next time we're on track.

my BTCC car is running 4 on the front, and has got 4.5 on the rear!

and as someone else has said your ball joint bolts need to go the other way round, just in case they ever come loose, I know that rarely happens but you never know.
