Well got back from holiday to find out there has been progress, not as much as I would have liked though, basically the roof should have been completed but due to the original roof tiles no longer available they stop to wait and see if I am happy with the ones they have chose.

This is what I got to see on the drive up-

As you can see all the brick work has now been completed and there has been a bit of facia put up along the side of the garage and the front porch.

The inside isnt looking to shabby either-

Note the specially made trusses to give me extra height, was hoping to get a two post ramp in here but unsure whether the height is still there to be honest-

Hopefully this will be covered in roof tiles tomorrow-

The porch, just a mini roof compared-

Once the roof is on the garage then this old garage wall which is inside the new build will be knocked down and the electric metre etc moved and all the wiring sorted, once this has gone the insides can start getting a make over.

More to come.

Carl

Whip a tape up and check. Surely a decent builder sticks to plans to a certain degree? I'd be p**sed if I had made particular provisions for the specific dimensions to then have them ignored.

Keen to see the finished article and how you make the use of all that space.

Looking at the pics no chance of a 2 poster in there or rather you could get it in there but couldn't lift anything to a height worth working under.

I could be wrong and perhaps it's several feet lower than intended, but I don't think Carl ever intended to have enough headroom to stand under a car in the air there. Presumably it was to be able to fit the pillars of a lift in the centre to be able to lay under a car a few feet off the ground without having to use axle stands. A standard door is what, 2m tall? Looking at the pic there would be a hell of a lot of height missing in the centre to be able to stand under a vehicle.

Although IMO, a ramp would come with the price of the back half of the garage having a void either side of the lift for crap to gather as a car wouldn't fit either side to be stored there.

Maybe would have been better with a traditional roof?, I,m a carpenter by trade and I hate roof trusses, two steel purlins, 5 x 2 rafters on timber wallplate, job done and car could have gone up into roof void ( that's full of trusses at the mo), I think builders just go for trusses cos there easier, you do have to worry about side loads with traditional roofs but that's what steel purlins are for to transfer the load onto the pikes,

Does look good though Carl, can you tell I'm jealous LOL

I so wish I knew about building regs etc as I know regards cars as I would have built it myself, this was the only way to get it through building regs unfortunately.

I have been looking at the fork lift style move around ramps, at least with one of these when I have finished with it I can move it to the side.

On another note I ordered the electric roller shutter door, being fitted on the 18th, looking forward to that LOL

It's not like you haven't got access to lifts as it is!! You have a workshop with everything you need, how many major jobs are you actually going to do at home that doesn't warrant a rinsing back to the workshop?

I wouldn't even bother with a lift personally. Smile

yep, used the coach ones, can be used on 45 foot trailers too, quite unnerving initially having a 12 ton coach 6 foot+ in the air LOL

it must take a fair bit of pumping the handle up and down to get the car right up in the air, takes a lot of manpower aswell to use all 8 mechanics everytime the coach needs lowering and raising, good teamwork though to keep it level while raising and lowering

You are a plonker Andy, that's the handle to move the ramp around, it's like a pallet truck once the handle is upright its dropped on the floor and the lift is done by the motor visable at the top.

Well I have been away for a while as most will know but the updates are slow, had a bit of a barny with builder tonight, basically was told 8 weeks, we are now 11 in and still no full roof, plus had no gas in the house for 3 daysCrazy

This is where we are, photos are better than my spiel-

That's about it, the other pitch of the roof is half done.Thumbs down

Up to now we are eleven weeks in, was told eight to do the job in total, to be fair we have had poor weather but yes the builders have slacked a little I would say.

It's all in render now and the roof if completed, just waiting for the windows and two doors to turn up, the main garage door will be fitted hopefully next Tuesday so it's all coming together.
