Was all set to lower the 6 with Eibach springs until an Aussie forum warned me against doing so without uprating the rear torsion bar (http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1057160). Judging by other threads on here that probably means a 21mm job.

Handling is the main reason why I bought the car so don't really want to take a risk lowering it if it's only going to be for looks.

What's the best way to lower the car and maintain the handling? Is lowering without uprating the torsion bar/ARB/dampers a good idea?

Good question, I've heard that eibachs are awesome but i also would like to know what the best setup is....

I was running mine lowered with the standard tb's and dampers. The only mods were a 25mm arb and solid mounts. Superb handling for the money. I apreciate there are better set ups out there but its more than adequate for my uses.

someone on here gave a guidance chart on suspension set up. something along:-

road use - standard height
fast road/track - eibachs, rear beam adjusted to match front and with 21mm bars fitted
track - coilovers, thicker torsion bars, thicker arb

if i'm totally honest, i very was impressed with my gti6 when i lowered it. but more impressed when i bought a rallye which was at standard settings

personally, i tend not build/supply my rebuilt axles with more than a 30mm drop

all i can add is that, you should make sure all suspension is either new or in excellent condition to benefit

Aaron - 25mm ARB is standard, not a mod. Yes

As for the 'best' setup, its all down to personal preference really. I run KW V2's on the front at a 40mm drop, solid roller bearing wishbone bushes. For the rear I run a 30mm ARB, 21mm TB's and solid beam mounts. The beam is also dropped 40mm. I also run 17" wheels and with this setup for me it makes the car handle spot on. However, it may not be to everyone's liking... Dunno

stan - 24mm is standard.

iirc some vts axles actually have 23mm arb

30 mm rear bar all day long here as well, anything less is not worth bothering with in my book

The hybrid arb are they any good? The 30mm bar will it require rear off and machining?

peugeot96 - To fit the 30mm ARB you need to install 205 rear pins as they have a larger internal diameter which will happily take the 30mm. Yes

Not all 205's pins can take the 30mm bar thou so you need to be careful as the batch's varied and still do

You're right about the batches varying Miles, its a problem we found with Pug.

However, we started buying the pins from GSF and never had a problem after that, every one was the same and no issues with fitting the 30mm though them. Smile

I haven't bought any for about 3 years now but I didn't think they would stop making this sort of stuff so soon. My Dad has problems sometimes getting genuine parts for his Sierra Cossie but I thought the day for me to be in the same boat with the Pug would be years and years away. I hear more and more 306 items are now unavailable at Peugeot and its quite worrying. Yes

According to Ash's graph in the 'About' section of the website if the rate of decline continues as it is at present there will be no GTi-6's or Rallyes left by 2017...that's a sad thought.

they've never been listed for a 306 anyway though LOL

Yes, and due to the fact that Pug never listed them for the 306 was the reason we originally went to 205 ones as they were listed. Once we started comparing we realised you could fit the 30mm ARB in there until as Miles points out we came across a set where you couldn't and then started looking at why they varied in internal size.

It was then we decided to try a different place and never had a problem after that.
