Set off for work this morning, petrol light came on
Drove about 15 miles and stopped to fill up (car was running fine)
Came out after paying and the fecker won't start!

Tried the obvious, fuel cut off, immobiliser fuse

The pump primes so I can only assume it's either no spark or the injectors ain't firing

My initial thought is the crank sensor but which others could it be? Cam sensor? Blown relay??

I'm at work now and the car is at the inlaws so it'll be nice and cold later

The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fecking temperamental.

Crank sensor or passenger fusebox has a failed fuse I reckon.

Get the fuses checked first including the large ones in the engine bay and see what you find. Yes

Ah, ok, when you put it that way I know what you mean. Roll eyes

Anyway, father inlaw just rang me, he put the battery on charge as it went flat while starting/towing it
He just tried turning it over and it started, so o think it's the crank sensor

surely wont be the crank sensor if it started again...

in my experience they either work or they don't, though the TU engined cars are known to have intermittent crank sensor faults.

My silver 306 did the same about 12 months ago, swapped it over and it's been fine since

What else could it be Dunno

That is very odd. Yes

I agree with Mei though, crank sensors either tend to work or they don't which kinda rules that out. Wink

If it continues to start then happy days. Smile

I have had an intermittant crank sensor, it had been hit by a loose bit of the clutch and the end was smashed.

right, got annoyed with it so called the RAC

its not getting spark, easy start was tried and didnt even get a splutter Sad
plugs taken out, they are dry (so no fuel) they are nice and clean

so i asked if it could be the fuel relay, he wasnt sure, so went to check on his laptop. he said he wasnt sure as he cant go into that much detail on it

anyway, we tried cranking it while he tapped the relay, and it spluttered each time he tapped it, but wont run Sad

so, new fuel relay will be tried tomorrow

Think the last time I bought one was maybe 6 years ago, and I think it was about £18 then. Shock

Let us know how you get on once you've changed the relay over mate. Smile
