The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fecking temperamental.

I think the next step is trying a different receiver aerial and see if the problem still exists. Yes

I think I've now sorted it

I've removed the immobiliser completely and put an unlocked ecu on it, it started everytime I've tried since

It's not an ideal way of sorting it, but I need the car to be running tomorrow and I'll have to get an alarm fitted now

Well now I have other issues!! Whether they are directly linked I don't know Sad

Set off for work this morning and all was well, drove 3 miles and stopped at the shop
Came out and started the car, it ran for a second and cut out
Started it again and it cut out again. It did this a few times and wouldn't idle correctly
There was a strong smell of fuel as well
Once I got it moving it was fine had no trouble for the rest of my journey

I'm very close to throwing a gallon of fuel inside it then torching the piece of shit!!!!!

you shouldn't be smelling fuel unless you have a leak Shock check your fuel lines! just to be sure,..
have you also done a fuel filter change recently? just go over everything with a fibe too comb,..
looked at you spark plugs to see if there running rich?

I checked the plugs the other day, they were perfect colour
It's just done it again now on the way home
It's almost like it's flooding the engine but once it's running it's spot on, no hesitation at all unlike when starting it hot Dunno

Could it be that the actual fuel was dodgy and that is causing problems?
But then again, you say it runs fine when it's going.

Also, one of the little coloured blocks on the fuel lines in mine cracked a long time back and that stank of fuel.
Not relevent to the problem, but worth a quick look Smile

The original problem was defo the immobiliser. But the following one where it wouldn't run when hot was the coolant temp sensor, I hadn't plugged it back in when I changed the crank sensor
