Would a well setup low boost six with uprated brakes beat a renault megane r 26r around a track day, most r26r are around 15k plus well you could do a lot to a 6 to keep up for problably half that amount. ________________________________________ TEAM Supercharged Rallye |

Seeing as the r26r holds the ring record for front whelk drive cars I'd say the fact it's newer with better chassis brakes on r888s and the cage means it should out do a 6 all day long |

I reckon a well set up '6 (310mm kit, good suspension, R888s, low boost) would be almost a perfect match for the R26R. A mate of mine used to own one, and even my standard '6 did a good job of keeping up with it, except on the straights. Add a blower to the equation and I reckon the chase would very much be on.________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

I'd wager that you were being a bit more of a hero in the corners, than your mate was in his much more expensive car?The only way to know would be to time yourself in both cars, rule out the effect of different driving styles ? ________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |

and my freind Had (just sold last week) a mk1 focus rwd cossie conversion running 280bhp and he said mine with low boost would of wiped floor with his, so I would imagine it would win the Reno in a line________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

I gave a saloon car racer (so he knew how to drive) a very hard time I'm my stripped and caged Rallye at Collerne. He was faster down the straights, but through the corners I was able to carry more speed and negate some of his straight line advantage. However he was suffering from brake fade and as such was backing off a little early into the heavy braking zones. I was pushing 190 brake on Jenveys and aprox 1050kgs at the time. I had GAZ golds, 30mm ARB, solid beam bushes, neg camber front, 21mm bars. Tyres were R888s. I chatted to him after in the paddock, he was surprised and somewhat miffed that I pegged him for 5 laps before letting md go, until he got the lowdown on my setup. If his brakes were sorted and I had had 30-40 more bhp it could've been a very good match, I like to think I'd have done him though ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. My old standard 306 was miles of my R26 for outright grip, infact a long way off. My 306 was a very good standard car. The R26R having more grip again.Infact to put the R26R into perspective, in one of Autocars tests (not sure what the test was about - may even have been Evo mag) the R26R was producing higher cornering speeds than the Ferrari 458, Porker 911 gt3 rs not to mention other big name sports cars. It obviously lost out massivley on the straights and had overall slower lap times. You will need to spend a lot of money and then at the end of the day it will still be a 306 when you come to sell it on. You would deffo need an LSD on the 306 as thats where you will loose loads of time. ________________________________________ Wedding and portrait photography click here |

Who cares? I know what you'd have more fun in, not all about which is the fastest round a track! And modern cars have way more grip then our GTi-6's, grip doesn't equal fun! ________________________________________ 149bhp ATW stripped GTi-6 & B6 Passat TDi daily drive-------------------------------------------------- GTi-6.co.uk - Videos and Pictures |

I dare to say it, but i'm sure the R26R is going to be awesome fun round a track, it didn't get amazing reviews for nothing Down to the day, the driver, the track and the individual car. My nearly standard Rallye was in a different league to CUJ's R26. Never use an impreza as a guide to acceleration or speed. Sure you might beat the odd one or two, but one day you will be properly embarrassed by one. Done properly there isn't much to touch them. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

Driven both, R26R is an awesome machine but for fun on a trackday it's the '6 every time. Being a new car, the 'R is quiet, smooth and relatively comfortable, whereas the '6 is a rattling noisy pile of fun you can throw around like a beaten up old toy. Plus R888's in a 235/18"? Would not fancy paying for those. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

For £15K I'd probably buy an ex-touring car like Mr Chambers has. How would that fair against the R26? Rather than chucking £15K at a 6 and it being worth 4pence in a years time, an ex BTCC car will hold it's value despite being a small market to sell to. |
