My 1st and only track car is my rallye, which is in the projects section. Had it since early 2006 so nearly 12 years. Took it on track within 3 weeks of buying it then that was it, been on a budget ever since. I've even taken my diesels on track.

PS. Matt, that XR2 looks awesome.

Thanks Mark, unfortunatly it just wasnt fast enough. Was an active member of the local RSOC group, and track boys all had cossies, so i sold it and built a 250bhp caged S2 RS Turbo for track.. Running on Slicks with 315mm AP's it was fun.

Where's the pictures of this beast?

looks nice too, I loved RST's until i drove a rough one and it really put me off. How do u always get mint cars? you must of had a shed at some point.lol.

I'll dust these off again.
Although this is technically a track car it was my first competition car, back when road rallying was proper!

After I totaled it round a tree I had a couple more then built a Rover V8 powered Talbot Sunbeam to try & keep up with the Cossies, too muck torque made it virtually suicidal around bends as it would lift the front wheels!!

Cool

PMSL - the blue xr2 was a rusty standard example and the white S2 was a finance repo off a mate of mine at the finance company. That came with a blown engine/turbo and a holed exhaust!!

They get mint the more time and money you throw at them. Too much at times.

Trouble is with RST's - they are getting old now, very old in some cases and a standard one with 133bhp isnt a fast car anymore. I had another 2 after the white one, a totally standard one in Mercury grey which i got ready for novice concours then got offered lots of money for and a black shitter that i broke for spares. As a standard car the RST are awful track cars. Even a 306 xsi would tear it a new one on track.

Worst car ive had was this..

Standard Mk6 RS2000. God awful thing it was. Looked ok from 10yards, was as rotten as a conker underneath and as flat as a witches tit. Kept it 3 months then got rid sharpish.

What did the RS2000 drive like? Must be ok with 150bhp? I must admit I do like the look of the MK5 RS2000, not so much MK6. I looked at them before getting the 6!

In fairness, mine was a bad un compared to better ones. It drove ok, just nothing special. Handling was not good, even comparing it against my older Mk4 RS turbos. Peformance was not a patch on a GTi6. Plus the body corrosion was frightful.

Mine had done 100k and when i put it on the RSOC rolling road day i organised it made 135bhp.

In isolation they seem ok, just against a standard 6 they look and drive a lot worse.

I hated mine the minute I got it home. Other respected members of my RSOC saw what i'd bought and were laughing, knowing damn well i'd bought a bad un.

The only thing in its favour was it was Auralis Blue, quite a rare colour on the Mk6, same colour as a few small turbo escos's were painted.

Arguably the best track car i had, and i ran this for 3 years was my P10 Nissan Primera eGT 5dr. Out the box with 150bhp, handling that was awesome and it was trully indestructable, used to do 60 minute sessions on open pit lane trackdays. All of my mates used to drive it, and i even missed a gearchange at donny and it went past 8750 on the rev counter without issue. Best thing was it owed me £270, we even did le-mans and the ring in it.

Had it on the rollers and it made 163bhp, was gutted inside apart from a pair of Cobra Suzuka seats and used to embarass some supposed faster cars on track. I suppose because it was so strong and because it owed me so little it was driven so much harder than a minter. Never missed a beat, and ran like a swiss watch.

Cristened the Track Taxi, its still about today, still doing trackdays.

The Nissan Primera above were very underrated, and a complete bulletproof weapon. Very capable cars.

My first fast car was always aimed at being fast road spec, but after being convinced to take it on a track day by my mate I got the bug. There were a group of 4 of us all with similar Rovers (White 220, Red 220 Coupe, Blue 220T and mine) and we all helped each other out.

I spent a long time procuring all the right parts and putting them together (325mm Brembos, suspension, turbo, FMIC etc), had the car 7 years and loved it until i made the fatal mistake of dropping a forged lump into it at which point it became a problem chaser. The engine was solid but dodgy parts like the clutch from reputable dealers soured the love affair and I stripped it last November after a year of taking it apart and putting it back together - whilst it was still worth the sum of its parts. I was absolutely gutted and still miss it, but it was turning into a money pit.

Despite the reputation before the shit clutch gave more headaches than married life, it was super reliable and very very torquey - it surprised a lot of people on track. I continue to help my friend who works for McLaren F1 and still has his, he's making all sorts of trick suspension bits now as it's a complete track weapon, no longer sees the road.

Following on from this I started building my Supercharged 306 Rallye. I just managed to get the new engine, charger and LSD into the car, only to get sent to SA for a massive job (which is still unfinished) and it's sat there since April (see my project thread in my sig). I miss working on it and can't wait to finish it and get it on track - where my driver skills will probably fall far short of its potential.

My first track day experiences were in my 6 which was more of a fast road car that I used for the occasional track day:

It was great but I started with a few mods (oil cooler, bilstein suspension etc) and realised I was on a slippery and expensive slope..... So, I cheated and bought a ready to go track car from Kev Jones:

It's 16v with CatCams 708, KMS management, Safety Devices cage, GTI6 brakes, Quaiffe LSD and lots more goodies Cool
Took it for a Boxing Day ragging this morning, it felt great after driving my 308 HDI shitbox company car every day! Cant wait to get back out on track in the new year!

*sigh* I miss my old car. It was such a peach. The Exiger is better, faster and on its day more fun, but the Elise was 99% the car with only 1% the hassles.

my first track 205, mi, cage, buckets, carbon bonnet, perspex windows but it never saw the track while i had it apart from the drag strip. its now a sprint car down plymouth way i think.

then came my gti6 which got me started on trackdays, stripped, buckets, 888's.

then i had this xsara vts for a few months before being a donor for my 205. did a full day at castle combe and a day drag racing, totally standard.

now use my current 205 as a fast road/track car. have done combe, kevil, haynes and the ring so far plus a few days at the drag strip and prescott hill climb.
