RichE must be a contender? Very knowledgeable member.

What's the pay like? Any holiday entitlement? Bonus scheme in place for hitting monthly target on numbers of threads locked/naughty step admissions? Is a company car provided? Any incentives in place to progress, say to a Senior Admin?

Bear in mind here (and this isn't me saying anything against Rich, to be clear) - why do admins need to be knowledgeable? We're talking about someone being able to lock/move threads and ban trolls.

That doesn't require an engineering degree, it requires time out of your day.

It requires a person who is impartial, diverse and isn't so eager to jump right into an argument. To be fair, someone with strong opinions and loves to voice them shouldn't be an admin member.

I'm not saying I want "some moron", I'm just saying that it seems to be dumping yet more shit on people who actually know stuff.

Have knowledge? Let us charge you to let people benefit from your experience. And now let us take up your spare time and weekends, by requiring you to delete stupid troll and bot posts.

I'm just saying that yes, it's obviously a benefit having admins with technical knowledge, but it shouldn't be a requirement. You don't need an NVQ to tell an exhaust from a wheel.

This. I'd be awful at it, because I'm biased, narrow-minded and like arguing. However equally people who dislike me for that shouldn't be allowed, because neither party is necessarily in the wrong in that case. A forum is a place for people to express opinions; not necessarily to be nice, friendly and make friends. Finding someone who can allow the forum to function well whilst knowing where the limits are is not necessarily that simple.

Ideally, you'd want someone who gets annoyed by poor grammar and spelling; after all, forums do have a "reputation" and I think this one's always had a pretty good one. At the same time, everyone makes the odd typo and if you go around banning people for mixing up their i's and e's you'll just end up with people demanding refunds all over the place and lots of unhappy people.
