Was chatting with my mate Rich last night about options for his rallye Trackday car. More specifically about generating more power (the holy grail i know).

I've seen the V6 transplant on here and done well, its a nice conversion, but in keeping with the 4 pot theme, what other things have folks seen done?

Before all the Supercharged boys look in and beast me for asking stupid questions, he's looked at that and to build a 300 - 350 bhp engine, will be serious money, plus we like to think outside the box.

I know there is a Vauxhall C20let engine in a 306 doing the rounds, but i was leaning towards a VAG 1.8t 20v engine. Similar size, turbo on the back, inlet on the front, 6 speed box as well.... and i know Martin Hadland (Reyland in Brum) fits these into various MG rover products and makes them work very very well.

Anyone got any other ideas to throw in the mix?

That was mentioned as well, b16 lump with turbocharging. Some strong power to be had out of one of them.

Are you after engines that make good power, or engines that are likely to fit?

To be fair, I think whatever engine he goes for, its going to need some fabricating work to rearrange the engine mounts etc?

How about an RX7 engine? I think CRF450 was planning on this. Small light engine, low centre of gravity, lots of power. No idea if you can mount it the other way to keep FWD though? Unsure Laugh

Its gotta sort of fit in the "hole" as it were.

Its very much an ideas stage at the moment, he's aware of the need to fabricate mounts and custom driveshafts etc etc, as well as some ecu/loom issues.

Hence the VAG lump. Had a nose round my mate Seat cupra 225 converted Bora on saturday and the mounts seem to be in very similar places and the engine box combo overall length was almost the same as the gti 6 engine / box.

T5 engine + box apparently weighs about 150 kilos, pretty light though I don't know what ancillaries that included.

As long as the correct oil has been used and always changed on time then it's not much of a problem. One of those engines in a 306 would be very interesting as even in a heavy Saab the mid range is savage.

In fairness ive seen a few VAG 1.8t's do the same, especially with long life service intervals. When i was at Skoda we did loads of engine swaps because of blocked pick up pipes etc etc.

Evolution Powered 205 GTi...

Could be done in a 306 shell. Probably easier too with the extra space
