Main checks are mayo on the oil cap, does it sound like a singer and are there clouds coming from the exhaust.

If none of these 3 are present you may have yourself a winner Whistle

Hmm Nice GTi. I think I saw this yesterday on eBay? I wouldn't mind a 106 GTi myself as a compromise on a '6 but £2,000 is a bit out of my reach atm. GLWTS! Can not imagine it being for sale too long Thumbs up

hi, yeah you'll definitely be weary once you're spending every weekend lying on the drive under it. Jokes, fantastic cars lovely power delivery, as mentioned look out for signs of imminent or previous headgasket failure, check for misfiring on startup or sewing machine type noises from the head (could indicate a previous snapped cambelt), knocking / creaking from the rear beam and make sure the fans work! Oh and also check when the cambelt, waterpump, rollers and tensioners were last changed. Someone here will know what the interval is.

Its reduced to 1800 now. Will sell cheaper without the ported and polished head and cams. 1500 on for the car alone :-)
