Sometimes "different from factory" doesn't necessarily equal "better".

The trick is realising when it is actually better, and when it just isn't.

But a lot of businesses make a lot of money doing just this.

I agree with this.

There are a lot of aftermarket products out there which do make the 306 as a package 'better' than Peugeot made it. However, gearbox oil is not one of them. No

No, far too many vowels.

There's a couple of oils that will improve the shift speed when cold + overall smoothness of change, but they're a fortune per litre and need changing every 3-4 years, and aren't really recommended for those putting massive power down.

I bought some GB oil from Peugeot last year and I got a 2L container.

Went in yesterday to pick up the same, and they tell me that the 2L container is no longer available and only comes in 1L containers. I bought the 2 expecting it to be more expensive that way, but actually worked out a quid or so cheaper.

Just wondered if what the manager actually said was correct, of it he couldn't be bothered to find the 2L part number?

Saw on Service box RP then a code next to it where NFP is often displayed. I presume that means it has been superceeded?

When i purchased my car i noticed it crunched going in to 2nd at high rpm and it felt terrible when cold. So i changed it for comma ep 75/80 and it improved it slightly but i still wasn't happy to the point that i even considered having the 1st and 2nd gear hub replaced.

I recently had my flywheel fitted and STUWEE off of here said he'd use the pug stuff BV 75/80, anyway the BV stuff went in and as if by magic the crunch in to 2nd gear has completely gone no matter how high the rpm. I was amazed i didn't think it'd make much difference.

Moral of the story use the BV stuff every time Thumbs up

Strange, my Astor suffered the same problems but oil didn't cure the crunch, must have had different issues.

Been said millions of times already, the Poogeot stuff is the only oil to use

If it's had the issue for a while you'll have worn the synchro cone/taper on the gear past where using the right oil can save it anyway. Especially if it's been grinding into gear and taken the angles off the dogs.

I got the gearbox oil from the dealer and it came in 2x1L bottles with a Pug logo on it. As others have said same price. Correct grade tho -well at least it was after I told them the 80/90 axle final drive oil was the wrong stuff. Last changed the gearbox oil 3 years ago but shift quality noticeably better now.

I have always changed the box oil every 3k miles on mine, but then that is a year's worth of use when it's on the road...

I know this is over two years old....but it does translate literally as box of speeds, which is what the French call a gearbox.
Not everything translates word-for-word into English, and often the way things are phrased in other languages sounds funny in English, as do a lot of English turns of phrase in other languages! LOL
Personally I quite like 'box of speeds', although it isn't dissimilar to English as we call cars a '6 speed' or a'4 speed' etc.

On the topic of gearbox oil, I also use genuine Total oil and it is great.
