So i returned after a days work to find that my beloved car had been crashed into Sad it didnt look too bad at first as there was only some quite bad scuffing on the front bumper. However, when i proceeded to try and pull away i knew something was wrong. On closer inspection i discovered that the front wheels where not lined up and the offside wheel would only turn a little.

Luckily i managed to get her home to take a closer look. The offside tracking arm is bent (downwards) and it rubs on what i think is the wishbone? Now, how the hell do you bend a tracking arm from scraping into another car from what looks like slow speeds? Dunno Are tracking arms hard/expensive to replace?

Sorry its in the wrong section, i will pay up soon promise Big grin

*EDIT* and of course no details were left Angry

Its not a write off.. The front bumper is scuffed, and it looks like just the tracking arm is bent.

Dont think so. The only damage to the exterior is the scuffing on the front bumper Dunno

Sadly there is a chance if you claimed it would be written off. Book value of say £800 and the parts and labour required there is a strong chance they would right it off.

I've known cars of 3 times the value being written off for bumper damage as its the genuine parts, paint and labour these days that makes it 'uneconomical'

Yeah, i suppose your right then Sad im hoping that most of the scuffing will buff out, and if the scratches are too bad i might try and respray the front bumper. Reallly dont want to have to go through insurance!

Can you replace just the track arm/steering arm or do you have to replace the whole steering rack? The track rod ends are fine, just the bar thats bent.

You can buy the track rods individually. Count the turns on removal of the track rod end, and refit with the same turns. You will still need the tracking doing though to get it spot on again.

Aye, don't buy second hand track rod ends! Bite the bullet and do it properly.
