My car appears to have sold on ebay to a chap who has 100% feedback over the last year over around 60 transactions, most of which are buying BMWs, most of the reviews saying he is a credit to overseas buyers...

It appears he is based in Estonia and comes over to collect the cars and one would guess flogs them on over there.

The internet has taught me to be cautious of people, but I'm thinking this scam would have cost more in time and effort to set up than the £1600 the car sold for.

I've heard BMW bits go for £££££'s over in eastern europe? I had a polish guy give me a card for jaguar parts one day in a taxi. Why I need one of those I've no idea...

probably take a lorry load back to estonia then strip them for parts.

I know some Iraqi kurds that do a similar thing to big Mercs and Beemers, buy them cheap here, strip all the parts they need off them and put the parts in a 40 foot container and ship it to iraq where they sell the parts on for big money.

Yes that sounds right.
My Mrs is Estonian and most of their cars are imported from Germany.

And cars out there are very expensive to buy, so he will make good money selling your 540i back in Estonia, even if he has to drive it there.
They love Audi's and BMW's out there. No French cars in sightLOL

Been trying to sell it for ages on pistonheads for 2 months, then nothing on gumtree for another month - not a sniff, not even an enquiry. .

Put it up for 1,950 or best offer and been getting offers of around 1100 from people on ebay, this guy offered 1600, and I just want rid as its costing me approx 80 quid a month over a diesel. (100 miles is £40 in petrol)

I guess the problem with my 540 is

1. most people want economical diesels not 4.4l V8s that do 18 mpg
2. People that do want a 4.4l V8 want a manual
3. People that do want an auto 4.4l V8 want the "sport" model (despite there being just a minor cosmetic difference on the bumpers between the sport and normal)

I don't really care, I gave 2250 for it 9 months ago so I'm not massively out of pocket

All cars have taken a knock in value recently.

People are repairing the cars they own rather than scrapping or selling on and buying a new one like they used when money was easy to come by.

I went for a browse around my local scrappy the other day and there was 2 polish guys with a long wheelbase van (brand new so poss a rental)... They were loading it up with all the bonnets off BMW's Audi's etc and had doors and stuff too, the van was litterally near bursting point...

Apart from when it comes to sending the parts they'd end up in Antartica rather than Estonia. And they'd be Kia parts rather than Merc or BM....

My parents recenty had it with my mums z3. French guy won it on ebay and we thought it was a scam when he asked for bank details. So we said no, deposit by paypal and the rest on collection.

He only bloody paid the paypal deposit, we were all stunned.

3 days later he picked the car up and paid in cash, all notes checked and were real.

Was a nice fella to considering he was french.

Nev, you once said to me that they all come back...... you are proving your own theory to be correct!

A Derv though or a 6?

Derv but 6 looky like (albeit with 5 doors)

Its purely co-incidence with me tho - just happens my in-laws have a 306 they are looking to get rid of. I probably would not be looking for a 306 if it didnt fall into my lap

Those HDi's really hold their value at the moment, I was after one myself for a while and I'd look again if I was after a diesel.

Anyone know what the gauge is for where the oil temp is on the 6?

I was wondering if it was a boost indicator or something - Mine just sits on "Off" all the time... never even seen the needle twitch.
