I have one of the original flywheels from early 2009 fitted to my engine. I haven't experienced any problems with it. I am running a genuine Valeo starter, not sure if this makes a difference?? My feeling is maybe aftermarket starters being fitted are contributing to the issue? Discuss.________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

As far as im aware the starter on that car is original. Unless it was changed pre 70k and not in the service history. perhaps we can get a viedo up of the noise if its possible this weekend. |

I guess no one saw my post last year but anyways, is the standard flywheel not hardened on the starter ring? I know the ones I made ford at my old place were induction hardend to more rocwell than the starter was so the starter became the consumable part and wore out 1st. If these lightened flywheels are softer than the teeth on the starter motor then the flywheel becomes the consumable. Has this been tested? Just a thought. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

Are the starter teeth hardened? If not, it makes sense to me that the motors are occasiinally killing the wheels. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

I'm guessing they are hardened, as like I say mine has been on for 3 years and is trouble free. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Had mine on for about 6 months now with no issues. Can even see the flywheel through the top of the gearbox and the teeth on it are still unmarked. Has to be an issue with aftermarket starter motors imo________________________________________ ''Oh, it does handle like a golf!'' Why drive a Golf....when you can drive a GTi-6? |

My first one stripped the teeth but rich sent me a newer one using the different steel and I had no issues with that, I only sold it as I couldn't see the point in having it with all the power. ________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

Be interesting to hear if they are hardened as the one danny had that stripped teeth wasn't I think. Danny's one had a genuine pug starter too.________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

I bought my flywheel in the same batch as Danny's, as I bought the two at the same time. His stripped out fairly quickly. The fact that he had a genuine Valeo starter thickens the plot somewhat too... ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

You will find that certain parts of the flywheel ring gear will appear unmarked. This is because the engine always comes to rest in the same position, and therefore it is always the same part of the ring gear which gets the torque applied to it when the starter starts to turn. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |
