Thanks guys means a lot, I wish I never brought the car I'm gunna get stitched

Depends what your idea of stitched is really, the market for a high priced good example is narrow so if you are serious about selling it you need to get it everywhere. On here, Pistonheads, Ebay, Autotrader etc. etc. etc. and you might get lucky....... Either that or if you have still got the bits you took off (exhaust and suspension etc.) return it to standard and sell the bits Smile

There ois soo much shit out there and that's why I took my time and shopped around to find one that was perfect like this one. If I won't get what I'm asking for it I may aswell strip it and have it as a track car. When I said this orriginally u guys went nuts as it would ruin a mint car. I took your advise. 6 months down the line and my lovely example isn't worth sod all. Its dissapointing

Whilst I agree you are correct, 5 years ago you would have been able to pick a car up for 2800 quid, it wouldn't have been as good as this one, 2 previous keepers and looks in pretty good nick, in 2007 this would have been circa 3.5k at least if it was with proportionally low mileage for the time.

Ok, proportionally you maybe wouldn't have bought a 40k,but I paid more or less the same for a mint Diablo the day I joined this site in 2006 with 50 odd K on it. 8 years old, not one mechanical or electrical fault in the 3 years until I wrote it off LOL All I had to do was MOT it a few times and do the front discs and pads.

The air con worked, rear beam's were straight, nobody neeeded an interior unless they had a wolf, check strap replacements were unheard of and nothing at all went on it as that was the period when they were reliable and bought by entusiasts for stronger money.

I, and I am sure most people on here, if they were in the market for a replacement GTi, would buy a cheaper one and spend the change on doing the things that needed doing, rather than buy one that appears it needs nothing, then spending hundreds on it and losing interest and money.

I don't think it will be long until they go sub a grand.

I was very lucky with mine 3 years ago, they rose to twice what I paid, then they dropped and have continued to. I probably won't sell it until it's ran into the ground as it occasionally does put a smile on my face and returns good economy.

Just give it some thought that if you get bored with that over the cold winter, you will make even less than if you cut your losses now.

Unfortunately i think we all have to understand that these cars will bring nothing but misery.

Coming to the conclusion that i will be keeping mine but not spending any money on niggles and basically running it into the ground until it breaks, then stripping it, keep it running witout spending any money on it for as long as possible then rape the carcass

You may get bored of that route very easily, and regret going down that one as well.

Yeah that's what I will probably do, think I've taken it pretty much as far as I'd like other than a replacement rear beam or if I ever go high boost. Going to stop spending on it and enjoy it, would be silly to sell and I was smart and did the sensible thing of buying one charged Whistle and I need to save for a house

At the end of the day, they cant get any lower now. The 205 went well low then all of a sudden they started getting higher. I know the 6 ant classed as a classic and unlikely too. With all the conversions of 205's with 6 engines etc, they are becoming lower in numbers and that can only increase the 6's price.

I say wait till we have another great spring/early summer like what im planning on doing with my low mileage example. Im spending winter doing all those finishing touches like painting bumpers etc.

I think they have a bit of falling to do yet. Or the £2800 owners will drop their prices to a lower level and there will be less of a gap between the very common £500 examples, and thn £1200 for the better ones.

Lower numbers increasing prices.... You say that, but just because a car becomes few and far between doesn't always mean it is worth great money. If it was a Ford, it would be as the marque attracts people with 10,15k prestigous models, and an old hack they value at 3,4k.

Off the top of my head, Colt GTi's. There are a dozen or so of them left. They are worth feck all LOL

There are still thousands of GTi6's, and the following for Peugeot's is not great enough for them to be worth over the odds.

I think if Peugeot had put some plastic arches on them, made them in only a few colours and called it a straight 'GTi' then they would still be worth good money.

Parkers is a load of shite!!! It would mean my cars worth not even a grand . When my old car got written off the insurance assesor said to me ignor parkers guide. And go on the current climate. He said as otherwise. For my old phase 2 I would have got about 400 when the insurance gave me 1350

When I wrote off my GTI6 in 2007, the insurance company gave me 3700 - almost exactly what Parkers had it at.

And it happens to agree EXACTLY with the September 2011 edition of the Glass's Trade Guide, which we have here in the office. In that, it's advises the trade to pay no more than 750 for a low-mileage V plate GTI, and to expect to get 1600 when selling.

So, Parkers isn't a load of shite after all.
