had the same issue with mine, ended up joining them in cleaning all the rust from underneath my rallye

nice work, its always more than you expect LOL looking very clean Yes

not any rust on the inside of the car?

Another ex gti6 member on here... Dave sold his six and bought an Evo from a garage. Turned out to be a total dog, subframe was total rotten and shouldnt of passed an mot Sad he did get it sorted eventually

No rust on the insideSmile

Alot of Evos now are rotten, people keep the external bodywork polished/clean but don't protect them underneath properly.Sad
The rear x-member and diff mounts etc cover ALOT of the chassis,so its not easy to underseal it properly without dropping the rear end.Roll eyes

Big grin Cheers Matt.

I am well pleased with the satin black on the rear crossmember, stands out nice against the white shell,it was just bare alloy as standard.Smile

Got a cage sat in the garage for it once its back on wheels,HKS Kansai 6 point, still allows full interior to be fitted.
Another used bargain at £280 off MLR,£1000 new!Crazy

Up to your usual shite standards so I see Kev... Razz I've just bought some rust bullet for my Rallye, and fair looking forward to using it. I assume that with this stuff it's pretty much a case of using a paint brush once, then waving it bye, bye as it gets fired in the bin? On that note, how did you apply your Rust Bullet?

Ha ha,cheers Bri!Razz

I use a brush with Rust Bullet, and your right, use them once and they are knackered!Thumbs down

Its rum tack for sure, you can clean the brush with brush cleaner, leave it soaking in brush cleaner over night and the brush is still rock hard the next day.

Hammerite/Rust Oleum etc if you leave the brush in cleaner over night its clean as new next day and soft,so shows how strong the Rust Bullet is.Cool

Does the rust bullet dry fairly smooth without brush strokes etc? The bits i'll be tackling will be in the engine bay and will remove side skirts to see what's happening around there. Even if it looks ok, I think i'll treat it anyway for peace of mind and the sooner I do it, it'll be of more benefit to me in my owership!

if this is good enough for an evo then its good enough for my wee 306!

First coat goes on real nice, but hard to get no brush marks in second coat I foundThumbs down

Second coat must go on between 2 and 4 hours after first one, could be the time between coats that makes the differenceDunno

Maybe it's still effectively drying between 2-4hrs but hard enough to paint on so the 2 coats "gel" together??

I've seen the underside of my Rallye...whoolly fack I'm in for a task and a half. My 309's are mint in comparison!

Hi kev, didnt realise you had started a thread on the infamous Evo. Looks like a labour of love especially after the old one being so rotten. Where did you get the 5 from. I am wondering if it got used as a recce car a few years ago hence it was so rotten. We used to blow all the crap off them when we used them on stages as the III-IVs were notoriously bad after a few seasons of the british championship and irish tarmac.

Yet again a fantastic work effort or are you escaping from the Mrs??

I am heading up the A5 soon would be good to drop in and have a look if allowed. Just dont finsih it too Quickly. Want to take on some paying work?? got a miami 205 with a boot floor that needs work!!

Yeah your welcome to call in for sure,if I'm off work!Smile
There alot of Evos with rotten chassis's surfacing nowThumbs down
The total lack of protection appiled by Mitsi is to blame.
My V had been over here since it was 6 months old,and had lived by the coast in Norfolk for some of that time with just one thin coat of undersealNo
It has crossed my mind about doing paid work on other peoples carsWink but would really need a unit,as my garage would not be big enough to have a car being worked on in it and the Evo once finishedBig grin
+I fancy building a bike engined kit car in the near future and would not be able to find time to do that and work on other peoples cars Smile
