coilovers in my expereince are the dogs bo***cks when compared to any other suspension type

why does the majority in here love standard type suspension so much?

well there alright, aslong as there setup propery and with matched springs. athough for road use theres no point, a set of bilsteins and eibachs are better. ive got coilovers on my 205

because to get a half decent set you need to spend £7-800 at the very least, and if you want the car to handle properly then factor in £2-300 on some torsion bars and another £150 on an ARB.

which is why most stick to mildly uprated fast road stuff that uses standard diameter springs.

Exactly, decent shocks & springs are better than shit coilovers, so why ruin your suspension just so you can say "I've got coilovers" to someone who doesn't give a shit?

I've got coilovers on my Volvo. I've had coilovers on my Impreza and my Rallye.

They are only good if they are designed well and use decent parts. The eibach and Bilstein B8 setup on the 306 is very, very good.

thanks for the replies.

as i guessed the people who like/have suspension. like the smoother ride.

sod that, ratling my ass off is fun.they handle just aswell. plus with the added bonus of height adjustability i can get her sitting just right.

the other bonus is the price difference. 180+ for coilovers 350+ for suspension.

each to their own. however id say any new type of suspension over 16 year old stuff is gonna be a vast improvement.

disagree, old o.e dampers on my 309 were more comfy and gave more grip than the gmax shite it had on when i bought it

10 to 1 yours handles worse than mine even though it's lower. Same odds on mine giving more feedback.
And I'll bet mine rides smoother too to boot.

i wonder if i spent the same ammount of money on good coilovers theyd be as good if not better?

then i think wouldnt a grand plus be better spent elsewhere?

I didn't pay much for my suspension, I built it LOL

And personally, I'd rather buy the Peugeot OEM dampers than those shitty Raceland-type crap off ebay, or even a decent set of matched springs + dampers, because whilst they're fine for just dropping the car and telling everyone in the pub you have coilovers, the internals are pretty damned terrible.

Here's one of those quality coilovers after less than 6 months use I took apart for someone...

And yes, he thought his car handled great with them wound up and the car sat on the floor, until he switched across to something half decent after and realised the car handled just as well and the ride was 10x better...

LOL

The reason you won't find many people talking about those cheap crap coilovers on here is because most owners bought the car for the fantastic balance it offers between ride and handling, why ruin it for the sake of dropping it to the floor?
May as well buy a Golf and start running around on stretched tyres with 20* of camber Ninja

Most owners either stick with the pretty good standard stuff, or upgrade to something decent.

fair play on the making them

i dont plan going to the floor, i intend the sump to retain its original shape in this car, unike my 1.4

ive learnt some of my lessons with that car. 180 quid for ebay jobbies, fit them myself, twiddle with the torsion bars for hours, car handled better than my gti6 even on crap non matching budget tyres. and the ride comfort was fine little bit hard but nothing i dont mind.

i know the 6 engine is heavier and new standard suspension would be great. i just like coilovers and how they work.

and no i dont tell people in the pub. less time drinking means more time driving Razz

^Old dampers vs new dampers, not surprising.
Plus the lower car will give more grip through less roll (although not actually handling as such, it does fool most people...).
