Hi guys, just wondering where to start with suspension mods on my 6. I've heard that deleting the passive rear steer is a good place to start, but then should I change the ARB for a hybrid one then put on some billies or will the rear ARB only be a real benifit once the dampers have been changed?

Thanks

Depends on your budget and what you are going to use the car for, track or road

ive just fitted a hybrid ARB yesterday and its made a hell of a difference....my car is standard apart from this and feels so much better round the bends with far less body roll, car feels like its on rails already and this is just the beginning of my suspension mods.Would defo recommend the hybrid mate.Im waiting on solid rear mounts and roller bearing wishbone bushes for the front too so will keep you posted mate!!

Good stuff. I'm fairly handy, so I'll make the majority of the things. Solid rear mounts wont be a problem and I've plans for some rose jointed front wishbones.

I'm not going to go to mental on spending money as it's not going to be my actual track car, but I want it to handle well whilst my main project is built.

I dont think 150-200 is unreasonable for an ARB if it means I dont bin my 6 through lift off oversteer. Had some very interesting moments in previous 306's

tbh, just make sure the dampers and bushes aren't knackered then leave it well alone if its not your main project, they handle well enough to have lots of fun as standard.

Was it complicated to change the rear arb? Theyre inserted into the beam aren't they? Can it be done with the beam on the car still?

Thanks

never had loos in a 306 tbh! you'd have to be pretty unlucky for it to cause any issues.

I've induced it before and also had the rear end beak loose under heavy cornering (read driving like a tool). Previous experiences have been in dturbo's etc. not experienced it in my 6 yet.

since i re-furbed the rear of my 6, fitted o/e mounts and vts bars and lowered it. the car is extremely planted

from recent experience, the whole car seems to turn in a lot quicker than i ever imagined

may have something to do with the more rigid front end aswell. thanks to rich_w roller bearing wishbone bushes

Word to the wise, anything you do to improve front end response or grip, particularly big improvements on turn in, will increase the chance of oversteer. So plan your mods to compliment eachother, if you are worried, sort the back end first, then improve the front later.

new OEM setup feels like it is on rails ... correctly setup the rear passive steering is simply amazing. sadly most cars 10 years+ have dropped and this affects the rear passive setup. a quick stab on the accelerator pedal and the back flicks round. the only time an OEM system is not so good is on a tight S chicane ... although you can exit well on the first corner that the transfer of weight to opposite lock for the second corner is hardly stressing the rear bushes. with new components any corner any speed comes to mind.

New standard bushes and mounts, standard ride height (most important factor to make the passive rear steer geometry work really is ride height) even standard sized wheels and tyres. But none of the above floats my boat TBH, stiff, responsive and outright grippy anyday of the week, standard cars feel like they are on tip-toes to me and rather unsettlingly disconnected, and all that rubber between you and the roadwheels just adds to that felling. Most on here seem to love it though, must have a rubber fetish or something...Roll eyes

You don't even recognise it as suspension unless it's twin shock and sporting at least a foot of free travel, not including sag Wink LOL

The advantage of standard suspension is you can travel at speed down a B road without worrying about your fillings coming out.

OK you lose 10% of the ability on track, but its a 100% gain on the road performance! Negate the difference on track by never lifting off Wink
