Hi all,

I've got a strange noise occuring at the rear end of the car when moving across uneven ground, to me it sounds like it's coming from directly under the boot floor pan, a creaking like noise. Also I can here I slight knock from there as I pull away or sometimes when I come to a stop. I can also hear it creaking noise from outside the car if I lift the rear end. If a heavy weight is plced in the boot like I bag of coal it seems to stop. Dry
Any ideas on curing this noise, much appreciated.

if you have no proof of the rear beam ever being refurbished, i would say it was about time you had it done Wink

Oh yes lol, budget for around £400 to £500 and get your rear beam rebuild kit from miles from this forum.

Getting mine done at the moment.

could just be front beam mountings knackered and the rear calipers sticking.

Saying that, my passenger side rear caliper doesn't seem to hold very well, & I only get the noise during or just after breaking, as i'm pulling away at a junction.

Are these the bushes that could be making the knocking noise? Wink

yup Smile I'd get the easy bits sorted then see if there's still creaking, if its gone then carry on and save up for a replacement beam, if its still there, cry LOL

Had a quick glance at the wheel arches, and the drivers side wheel seems to be sitting further back in the arch than the passenger side.
Could worn bushes cause this? Unsure

the bushes you have pictured are the more expensive and harder to fit ones. I would try these first

Clicky.

Cheap and quick to fix. May not be the final solution but its where i wouls start.

those ones don't cause knocking, just a wayward rear end.

I have a knocking/clonking from the rear of the Rallye when going over bumps and rough road surfaces that sounds very much like the exhaust hitting the underside - except the exhaust does not have excessive movement and doesn't seem to be touching anywhere (mostly on the left where the exhaust is, but sometimes might be on the right). I thought it could be the spare wheel bracket, but I took the spare out and the noise is the same.

The car drives and handles very well, and there is nothing obviously wrong with the suspension (nothing seems to be loose), but I can't find the source of the noise. I've done a search on here, but nothing conclusive.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Ta.

I have the exact same thing , to the tee, nothing wrong with my handling either, I thought it was a shock for a while but now I'm fairly certain its the beam mounts, do me a favour if you find out what it is tell me? I even removed the wheel like you to test as well Razz

If there are two of us with this issue there must be more...

I was dealing with some surface rust underneath today and had another good look while I was under there - torsion bars don't seem to be loose either. Nothing obvious at all.

I might be able to get it up on a hoist in the next week or two - if so will have a good poke around and report back.

I had the same symptoms on mine once. Turned out to be one of the nuts holding the damper to the chassis was slightly loose. Only by about a quarter of a turn, but enough to allow for some movement. Might be worth a check.

Got the car checked out on the hoist today. There is no play in the rear beam, no loose wheels, bearings, mounts - nothing loose at all, everything is as it should be. The only source they thought could produce the noise is the front of the spare wheel carrier where it goes through the holes in the brackets. Perhaps the holes have rusted bigger or the carrier is bent or something. My tyre was very soft so I pumped it up to see if it allowed the wheel to move up and down in the spare wheel carrier - no difference at all.

There is definitely nothing loose that could cause a safety issue and as I said before the handling is spot on. The mechanics suggested I talk to a Peugeot garage or specialist as this issue must have occurred before due to the numbers on the road. I'll give Carl a call when I have a moment.

Spare wheel carrier is the only possible suspect at present.

Well that doesn't make me feel much better, I'm hoping it just goes when I fit solid mounts, having said that mine is occurring more often this month, next to a vibrating heatshield its doing my twat in

fitted solid mounts at the weekend and it seems my noises are gone. I used to get a slight knock from the rear when crawling along in 1st gear under 10mph, if you just gently accelerate then lift off.

When i took the front mounts of there was quite a lot of play in them.

I was expecting there to be more noises/vibrations but it really doesn't seem to be any different at all...

After listening to the noise for another 1000 miles I think it must be the rear beam mounts, even though the handling feels fine. I will get them replaced when I can.
