Goldie held herself together all morning at Donnington, no real issues other than a slight clunk when changing direction, which i suspect is an ovalled hub. I've got a spare pair of 18mm hubs in the garage so i'll get a couple of wheel bearing kits, track rod ends and a pair of new balljoints and get them fitted before i go to the 'ring.Over all i'm very happy with how well she did on track, the roll cage has made a huge difference to the chassis stiffness and improved on what was already a good handling car. Thanks Phill. I managed to get a few videos on track. Session 1 Session 2 Session 3 I was pretty steady on session 1 as its the first time i've done Donnington. Session 2 was ok. Session 3 it was wet so it was like driving on ice, as you may notice around 2:00 in. I got a fourth session recorded but with a HD camera, which the sound is awful on. It does briefly feature Carl though so i'll start it uploading and edit in a link when its done. I quite enjoyed watching everyone spinning off once the track was wet. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

Wasn't from mine but i believe it may have been from another 306. Session 4 - Turn down your speakers! I've just changed the oil and filter this afternoon, and whilst on axle stands had a play with the front wheels, theres some play in the n/s one so i reckon the bearing is on its way out. I can't feel any play in the n/s track rod end but if i hold the body its very free to rotate slightly on the ball so i suspect that thats worn a bit too. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

Thanks Wayne. No problem Chris. I think i left around 2:30 ish, car shows arent really my thing and i get bored really easily so once i was done on track i only stopped for a burger, met a few friends then buggered off home. Rear suspension is standard torsion bars and anti roll bar, solid mounts and the dampers which came with my KW V2's, which i believe are koni units. The rear suspension is something which needs a bit of attention really, but i'm holding fire for the time being as something better may be coming up in the future. I've got 21mm bars, a 30mm arb and the bearings for the trailing arm shafts sat under my bed. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

Thanks mate The rear of my car was awful on track, and just seeing its whether is standard, or the fact that its f**ked Will get it rebuilt with hybrid arb and solid mounts I think and see how I get on with that. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Update time.I decided to treat the car to a pair of 18mm hubs which i picked up at bargain prices on here months ago. Pressed out the bearings, shot blasted them, wire wheeled the stubborn bits and painted. New wheel bearings, ball joints and track rod ends. IMG_1737 by Steve Count, on Flickr IMG_1740 by Steve Count, on Flickr IMG_1751 by Steve Count, on Flickr IMG_1760 by Steve Count, on Flickr A few weeks ago i bought a bargain filter, so set about cleaning that and fitting it, i had to move the ECU back to get it in a position i wanted it in, so i had to knock up some new brackets and decided to do a little triangulation to stiffen up the housing as the old setup could wobble a bit. IMG_1738 by Steve Count, on Flickr IMG_1767 by Steve Count, on Flickr The windows have been leaking with heavy rain so i bought some of that adhesive backed foam stuff for sealing draughts for the rear 1/4's. Whipped the lexan out, stuck the foam round the edge and put the lexan back in. After a few days of testing with it being crap weather i'm happy that they no longer leak so i put the borders on which Chris supplied for me. I thought i'd got the countersunk bolts flush but apparently not quite. Not to worry though, the borders look infinitely better than the shiny stainless bolts standing out. IMG_1768 by Steve Count, on Flickr I had my heated windscreen fitted the other day. It works a treat, i'm well chuffed with it so far. I drove it for a while without a sunstrip but got fed up of it being nearly impossible to drive in the evenings when the sun is low, so i've stuck on a new strip today. IMG_1769 by Steve Count, on Flickr I've just bought a trackace wheel aligning kit, so i can do the tracking myself once it arrives, should save me a fortune over the years. I think that's about it. I'm taking it over to the nurburgring this thursday, so hopefully this year will be better than last year. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

I'm back from the 'ring now, managed 11 laps in her and one pax lap in a Noble M12 GTO 3R, which was pretty epic. The weather was mostly rain with dry spells, which wasnt really ideal, however goldie never missed a beat and proved herself more than capable against some much more expensive machinery. Pic time: IMG_1849 by Steve Count, on Flickr Video time: 8:55 BTG 9:50 Wet BTG Behind rwgti at the end Behind a fast Mini before the battery ran out During the trip i've managed to cover my discs in pad material, so braking is nice and jerky now, and i've once again got some clunking coming from the front end. I'm sure i did some faster laps than the ones recorded but my usb adapter for the cigarette lighter didnt work so i couldnt charge the camera in my own car, and had to rely on using my mates charger when he wasnt using it which wasnt ideal. I've also killed an almost new R888, but one of the old ones i had taken off was in decent condition so i'm going to get them swapped when i get time. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

Yeah i noticed your pics, just wish i had noticed before i spent hours trawling through the various photographers websites to re-find them. Hopefully we'll see you next year, the 'ring has just gone into liquidation so the 2013 season is a bit unknown. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

No new shiny bits fitted for a while, i've been blowing my money on holidays instead , but i did take it to Cadwell for an evening on track the other day.Weather was crap, a tree fell onto the track after the sighting laps so shut it for 45 mins, and at the end a golf set on fire so it closed 10 mins early. Only ended up on track for 40 mins out of the potential 2.5 hours, plenty of closures between all that with people spinning off. Just one clip that i could be bothered to edit and upload. Clicky Planning on doing another couple of trackdays over the coming months before i start spending money on the car again. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |
