Got my new centre dash made up and the switches are in it now.
For some reason it took ages to make and do all the wiring, but it's in now and as much as is needed is working so i'm happy with that.

She's now taxed again and has been abusing the local B roads nicely. Cool

One of the switches allows me to turn on the radiator fans manually, i was going to wire it so it turned on the relays in the fan box but since i couldn't find a gti6 specific wiring diagram and i got bored playing with my multimeter with the relays i decided to just use a relay in one of the wires going to the brown coolant temperature sensor, it's usually closed so will work the fans when the engine gets to 97 and 107c, and i can manually open the relay using the switch which essentially opens the coolant sensor circuit which turns the fans on low speed for a couple of seconds then onto high speed.

I did some testing yesterday and theres loads of airflow through the bulkhead where the heater unit gets it's fresh air from, so i'm going to run some ducting running to the centre vents in the dash from there, so i can optionally open them up if i get too hot on track. It would be a bit much if i just left it as it is now, at higher speeds its like a tornado blasting into the car and i'm pretty sure it wouldnt be pleasant for any passenger. LOL

Enjoying all the road noise the roll cage transmits up through the mounts now then? LOL

To be honest its not that bad, i was expecting more noise and vibration from the stiffer engine mounts too but its not as bad as i had imagined.

There was a lot of wind noise before i blocked off the air scoop through the bulkhead, it was like a wind tunnel through the car at speeds above 50. LOL

I went out for another play earlier and i'm loving it, i'll take a couple of pictures after work, though i've not really got a whole lot done this weekend, just mounted the front windows, sorted out some cold air ducting to stop the wind tunnel effect and give me some controlability, sealed up where rain was running down the roll cage leg where it goes through the bulkhead and done a little more to the rear undertray.

Instead of welding the cage down you should have just used double sided adhesive foam to reduce any vibrations. Laugh

LOL

Pictures as promised:

Anyone got any experience with the bags that you put wheels in? I don't really want to be putting my track wheels in when they are covered in dirt/gravel/general crap.
I'm thinking either these or these.

Good progress, not keen on the rubber mats though, too heavy!

Where did you get the carbon for the dash?

The mats are staying for road use, i may take them out for trackdays.

It's not real carbon in the dash, just vinyl on some 2mm thick lexan. Smile

The oil pressure one? I think it was Demon Tweeks, may have got it through their ebay store as i think the postage through their website was pretty extortionate for what it was. Took me a while to find a nice subtle gauge like it.

If you want me to i'll have a search through the receipts to double check where i got it from?

Thats the one, you'll also need a 0-10 bar pressure sender unit, and an adapter to fit it into the block or one of your oil lines.

Not done much on the car this week, just making up a rear undertray to blank off the dead space where the spare wheel used to be.
It's not fitted yet but it should be going on at the end of the week before FCS.

It's pretty lightweight, and pretty sturdy since i did a little reinforcing with some fibreglass.

I also got a new camera for recording trackdays since my last one got dropped and went a bit haywire and unpredictable, the video quality is pretty decent, but the sound is pretty rank. Sad
