The beam itself is generally fine, it's the pins that are the problem. When you take the two trailing arms off the pins will either be nice and shiny, or if water's got in they'll be completely rusted and horrible. As long as the beam is okay at the moment (i.e. no weird camber caused by ovalling) then it'll be fine, it's just a case of replacing all the bearings and parts. Think I had some pictures of mine on my thread. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

Well the donor beam had some very slight camber going on. I will try and get it stripped down, then put pictures up for the experts to tell me whats good and not good Donor beam has to be better than mine ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

T1R's are not ok.I just cannot fathom why people consider using them after having tyres that produce actual amounts of grip. ________________________________________ Ex- Phase 3 China GTi-6 T-Reg |

To be fair, I havent really experimented with really good tyres, but never really had too much of an issue with the T1R's. Then again, the spirited driving in the car these days I use my R888's. The T1R's are on my daily wheels and recently all they have been used for is getting to shows. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

They seem to work better with a lower sidewall 205/40/17s were actually pretty damn good, they used to stick even in the wet through 1st and 2nd gears. s**t for wear though. |

Right so I have started to strip down the spare beam I have, this is not that fun!New bearings should be on their way, but no doubt there is loads of seals and other bits I still need. I should be sending the mounts off today to get them converted to solid mounts, but couple of week turnaround so have time to try and get beam sorted. Bit annoyed though as dont have funds to buy bigger ARB, torsion bars etc. So I am going to have to build a standard beam, then re do it again down the line. Tried to get a credit card, but somehow denied, so thats annoyed me ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

As long as you put it back together with plenty of copper slip it should be far easier to replace the bits when you have the money ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

Yeah most of the ballache is getting it apart with years of grot and rust all over it, if you clean it up properly, soak all the bits in some Deox-C or similar, paint and grease it up all nicely it's a breeze, I've had my ARB out since doing mine and it just came straight out. Never had the torsion bars out, but hopefully nothing a slide hammer couldn't deal with. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

I spent ages when i recently did my rear beam adjusting each side so they were within a couple of mm of each other, once you've had the torsion bars out and in a couple of times mine were almost able to be persuaded out using a screwdriver to lever against an M8 cap screw i'd put in the end. Obviously i wasnt hitting them completely in each time i tried the new height but they are dead easy once lubed up. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

Steve, As you find it easy, I will get it to a state where I basically have all the bits, will then drive to you so you can help me put it back together and fit Jokes aside, I would be up for doing this and can persuade you with beer tokens etc? Might get Phil to weld me in some seat rails while Im up there ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Bugger, what have i let myself in for. Yeah i'll give you a hand, will you have the spare beam all in parts and just want it assembling when you come up? The reason i ask is i dont have access to a press out of work hours, or keys to the work unit, so if things have already been out and just need putting back together then it shouldnt be too much of an issue. Will the beam be seperate then want fitting to the car? ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

Thanks for the kind offer Steve, I will see how I get on and hassle people for help if I get stuck I do need some help with the rebuild parts, if you could let me know which seals etc I need, that would be spot on. Also undecided what parts to buy as Ive found a credit card. Might aswell get it done in one go eh? I was thinking rebuilt beam, solid mounts, 23.5mm torsion bars and 30mm ARB. Also need to look into dampers I guess. I have some Bilstein ones that Ive had on for a couple of years, bit stiffer than standard, but could maybe do with more. Front suspension is: KW v2 coilovers, RichW roller bearing wishbone bushes, OMP strut brace so I guess the rear setup I suggested might be ok? Any suggestions and input welcome ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

roland rat wrote: hybrid arb and 21mm bars solid mounts I thought this was for a more road going setup to suit Bilstein/Eibach combo? The car doesnt do that many road miles, no commuting and only used on the road for fun. I would of thought would want/need it stiffer than that? ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |
