Looking good chris.when you had the cobra seats did you sit quite high up?,have you decided to go for side mounts or basemounts.I have a spare set of sliders if you interested Smile

Thanks Sam Smile

I went for side mounts (had to due to new seats) The sliders I have only my current base mounted subframes wont fit, but looking at placement of fixed, might be alright without them. We will see. I did sit quite high in the old setup I think. I am 6ft2 and with a helmet on I was basically wedged between seat and roof Laugh

He has gone for side mounts mate. Lookung good chris. Have you got ur tickets for fcs yet? What time is your track session?

Cheers Eddy Smile

Yeah got tickets through last week but can't remember the time for track slot. Around 3, maybe 3:15? I will check when I get home.

No mate decided against it and just got the one session. Saving the money to do another proper track day instead.

You doing the open pit? Fancy giving us a passenger ride? Smile

Another part of the update..

Had a MOT today, all good but need to sort my lights out, so not there yet. For some reason all of my sidelights are not working, plus number plate lights. Tried the rear cluster etc from my other 306, no change. Tried the fuses from other car and no change, no idea what that could be Unsure

Maybe something has come loose at back of fuse box so will get that checked over tomorrow.

Few little bits done as I had a few minutes free..

Started mocking up the fitting of the new seats. Cant fit them as still need plates welded in, but thats in the week.

Cobra side mounts decide to think its a good idea to make the holes slightly too small to get my 12.9 m8 bolts through Roll eyes

So out comes the drill, and within minutes we are set to go.

In the first fitment, wanted to mock up if I can get the seat located how I want it to drive. By the looks of it, should be able to do it without having to buy some runners, thank god!

These are too close for what I need but will have another crack tomorrow.

New gearstick..

and fitted..

FCS pack turned up and another sticker so thought I would move them to a different spot.

Oh while on the topic of FCS, my track slot is 3:15, think same time as Eddy Yes

And the eyelet bolt things that need to be welded in..

Update on the new seats...

Until I can get my eyelet plates welded in for the new harnesses etc, I decided to utilise some standard points for harness mounting. Used the same points as Eddy, which meant using a tap and die for the exhaust tunnel point.

Please note that this update is temp, and will have proper welded in points soon. I just wanted something for the time being.

Borrowed a tap and die kit from work, and within 5 minutes I was done, happy days.

Making the thread

And voila..

Next up was fitting the seats to the base mounts, and I am not happy about this. I bought the OMP mounts as they used standard fittings etc, and assumed it would make things easier... WRONG!

To get it so all 4 bolts fit the mounts, means fitting them wonky. Think I heard something about this, anyone else had these issues with OMP base mounts?

s**te!!

I have used a couple of washers to space it out slightly, hopefully this will be ok?

Took it for a drive after fitting and have to say I think its all good. The mounting of seat to sidemounts was an educated guess for height and position, and think I am ok with it and wont need sliders, which is good news. Also, on the last seats I had very limited head room with a helmet on, so mounted these seats lower down. Loads more room, but feels strange sitting that bit lower.. Feels more like a race car though Devil

How easy was it to remove your dash, strip wiring and sound proofing then refit dash? Think it could be done in a days work?

If its the first time you are removing the dash i reckon it will take you a few hours to do, likewise on refitting.
Stripping the wiring on mine took several evenings but only doing an hour or two at a time.

Now i've taken the dash out a few times it would only take a few hours to get out and refit, but the first time i did it it took me a weekend to do the heater matrix.

Easy-ness wise its pretty easy to do, just time consuming and sometimes a bit fiddly.

EDIT: I'd get some harness plates welded in asap Chris, i know it's only a temporary measure what you've done but tapping that outer skin really wouldnt hold out with the forces involved if you were to be in an accident.

He tapped out the existing seat/belt anchor point by the look of it, it's about 8mm thick there if I'm right.

From what i remember there was nothing there but it is thick and tripple skinned. Its just above where the mounting point for the seat frames go so i cant see it being any problem holding a harness in if its strong enough to hold a seat in Thumbs up

Bit of an update, getting there slowly...

Spent some time at the weekend with a friend for him to weld in some plates to bolt the cage to.

After they were welded in, he decided to go a bit mad and try and tidy it up with filler etc, he's a tart and thought it would look better, so left him to it.

Will get some pictures loaded up when finished..

A friend of mine owns a bodyshop so was meant to be painting it for me, he is a slack f**ker and still not been done, so a friend rattle can'd it for me, but ran out of paint so only half way there.

Rear half fitted and all holes drilled etc for the front, just need to get more paint to finish it off, and bolt it all up together.

The areas in primer will be finished in china, and will be doing some other tidying with a rattle can.

Also got the new 4 point harnesses from John (t400 pug), cheers mate. They will be fitted soon, and be nice that they are going to the cage rather than floor Smile

Thanks mate Smile

I think its good, but to be honest its about the same as my last setup (standard gearstick with Compbrake quickshift). I notice with this one, there seems to be some lateral travel in the stick when its in gear. Need to check that out.

What wont help is the other day, I tried to turn round on a neighbors driveway and beached it on the path. It hit my exhaust clamp and hit the gearshift. This popped the circlip out, and popped the gearstick out. Need to get under the car and check out its all good. Seems it to be honest Unsure

Pics of said fail....

Ooops Laugh my ass off
